At the July 17 Northwestern School Corp. Board of Trustees meeting, it was revealed that the Hoosier Athletic Conference had issued a ban against the Tigers playing tournaments this season as punishment for the school’s decision to switch to the Three Rivers Conference in the 2024-25 season.
Northwestern School Superintendent Kristen Bilkey revealed the news, then saying the school was still in negotiation with the conference to lift the ban. Further negotiations resumed on Wednesday between Northwestern Schools and conference officials and were successful in getting an agreement that Northwestern’s teams could play this season in all tournament play.
Superintendent Bilkey contacted the Lantern July 19, saying, “At the time of the board meeting, the Hoosier Conference and Northwestern had not reached an agreement regarding separation from the conference. We reopened the discussion yesterday, and it appears that we will be able to participate in all conference tournaments.”
The Tigers announced the switch to Three Rivers Conference in June of this year, several weeks after another area school, Lewis Cass, also left the Hoosier Conference to join Three Rivers.
