The 120th annual Kokomo Musicale will take place Sun., March 17, at 3 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 3401 S. Dixon Road. The entire community is invited to attend this free event.

With a mission of “promoting and dignifying the musical profession in the city of Kokomo and Howard County,” the Kokomo Musicale features an annual President’s Day scholarship competition for Howard County high school seniors. At stake are four scholarships – the Kathaleen Graham Scholarship ($600), the Anne Walsh Scholarship ($500), the Joan Knolinski Scholarship ($500), and the Tri Kappa Award ($500).

Past winners of the scholarships include: Jackson Edwards, horn; Lucas Farmer, violin; Vivian Freije, violin; Fiona Lam, oboe and piano; and Rachel Rath, horn.

The event also will feature guest speaker Robin Ligon Williams, making a presentation about her mother, Judith Kay Ligon, who was a member of Kokomo Musicale before pursuing her musical career in New York.

Kokomo Musicale was established in 1904 and federated with the U.S. Federation of Music Clubs and Indiana Arts Festival in 1916.
