On Monday, June 30, Indiana native and bestselling author John Green – known for The Fault in Our Stars and Looking for Alaska – will appear at the Pike Performing Arts Center in Indianapolis for a one-night-only event focused on censorship, intellectual freedom, and the growing battle over access to books.
Titled, “Censorship in the Trenches: John Green in Conversation with IN FREADOM,” the program will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Green will take the stage for a live, in-depth conversation about his personal experiences with censorship and the ongoing fight to protect the freedom to read.
The event will highlight the real-world impact of book challenges and explore how readers, educators, and communities can respond. With his signature mix of insight and humor, Green will speak directly to the heart of why stories matter – and why defending them matters even more.
This evening is hosted by Indiana FREADOM to Read, a volunteer-led coalition of Hoosiers working to protect access to books in schools and libraries. Supported by the Indiana Library Federation, the coalition brings together librarians, educators, parents, students, and advocates across the state. IN FREADOM’s work includes public education, community organizing, and legislative outreach to safeguard the rights of all readers.
Tickets are available starting at $40 and can be purchased through Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/INFREADOMJG2025. Multiple pricing tiers are available, and seating is limited. Proceeds support IN FREADOM’s advocacy efforts.
