Thirteen new faculty members join IU Kokomo

Indiana University Kokomo announced the addition of 13 new faculty members this fall – including in psychology, education, business, nursing, and computer science. Scott Jones, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, welcomed the new faculty.

“I look forward to seeing the contributions these new faculty make to our campus and community,” Jones said. “They bring not only their academic expertise, but new ideas to campus, which benefit our students.”

New faculty include:

School of Business



 Abdul-Kadir Ameyaw, assistant professor of management. He is completing a Ph.D. at Florida Atlantic University with a concentration in entrepreneurship and a Ph.D. in Managerial Economics from St. Petersburg State University, Florida. He also earned a Master of International Management from the Community of European Management Schools Alliance, Cologne, Germany; and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Russian State Hydrometeorological University, St. Petersburg, Russia. Previously, he was a visiting research fellow at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa.



Mallika Tamvada, visiting lecturer in business law. She earned a Ph.D. from the Essex Law School, University of Essex, United Kingdom; a Master of Laws from University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Laws from Maharshi Dayanand University Institute of Law and Management Studies, Gurgaon, India. Previously, she was a senior lecturer at Bournemouth University, United Kingdom.

School of Humanities and Social Sciences



Afra Agalar, assistant professor of psychology. She earned a Ph.D. in Psychology and a Master of Science in Psychology from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania; a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Okan University, Istanbul, Turkey; and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and History from Begazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. She previously was an instructor at Lehigh University.



Jenny French, visiting lecturer in education and paraprofessional program coordinator. She earned an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University; a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Ball State University; and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from IU Kokomo. Previously, she was an instructor at the University of California San Diego and director of foundational literacy at ThinkCERCA.



Jennifer McNeany, assistant professor of education and school psychology. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Administration and an Educational Specialist in School Psychology from Indiana State University, a Master of Education in Educational and Psychological Foundations from Valparaiso University, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Purdue University. Previously, she was assistant clinical professor of school psychology at IU Kokomo.



Kevin Moskowitz, visiting lecturer in history. He is completing a Ph.D. in History at the University of Texas at Arlington. He earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in History at University of Texas at Arlington, where he’s also been an instructor.



Ryan Newman, visiting lecturer in education. He’s earning an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from IU. He earned a Master of Science in Education Administration from Butler University; and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Ball State University. He’s been a visiting lecturer and adjunct professor at IU Kokomo and was a middle school teacher in Carmel Clay Schools.



Liz Sills, assistant professor of communications. She earned a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Louisiana State University; a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Montana; and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Transylvania University. She was previously an associate professor at Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Library



Yanling Liu, coordinator of information literacy and research services. She earned a Master of Library and Information Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Developmental Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She was a graduate assistant at the Agricultural Communications Documentation Center and lead graduate student at the Funk ACES Library, Urbana, Illinois.

School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions

• Alessandra Chou, lecturer in nursing. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Purdue University; a Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue University Northwest; and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from IU Kokomo. She previously served as an adjunct faculty member at IU Kokomo and is a staff nurse at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis.



Angela Opsahl, dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice; a Master of Science in Nursing Administration; and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from IU. She also earned a certificate of leadership excellence from the Harvard University Professional & Executive Development. Previously, she was interim associate dean of the IU School of Nursing.

School of Sciences



Md Aktaruzzaman, assistant professor of computer science and informatics. He earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Universitá Degali Studi di Milano, Italy; and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from Islamic University, Kushtia, Bangladesh. Previously, he was a professor of computer science and engineering at Islamic University, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center, IU School of Medicine, Indianapolis.



Amanda S. Tanner, lab supervisor. She earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Central Florida, a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biology from University of Southern Alabama; and an Associate of Arts from Pensacola State College. She previously was a chemistry graduate student researcher and teaching associate at University of Central Florida.

Education is KEY at Indiana University Kokomo.
