A Kokomo man has been arrested in Delaware County for allegedly causing an infant to be injured while involved in a drunken dispute. Mark Scott II, 31, was arrested by Muncie Police on Sun., Aug. 17, after family members called to report the incident.
Scott allegedly attempted to abduct a one-year-old child amidst an argument with family members. He took the child in his arms and, when he was confronted, brandished a pipe wrench to ward off attempts to stop him.
According to police reports, there was a struggle for the weapon as family members attempted to disarm Scott, and in the process, the child was struck in the head. The infant was left with abrasions to its head, chest, and left arm as a result of the conflict.
Scott then allegedly fled to his vehicle with the child as if to leave but did not have the keys. When he left the child in the car to retrieve the keys, family members rescued the child and sought shelter in a nearby home until police arrived.
Police reported that Scott was in a disheveled and agitated state when they arrived. Suspecting intoxication, he was taken into custody.
Scott faces charges of Neglect of a Dependent — a Level 5 Felony — and a misdemeanor count of Criminal Recklessness.
