Stand-in for Solidarity on Labor Day

Written on 08/28/2025

On Labor Day, Monday, September 1, Kokomo residents are invited to gather at Foster Park, 712 W. Superior St., for a peaceful, family-friendly action in solidarity with workers and communities everywhere.

From 4–5 p.m., participants will line the sidewalks of Washington Street with signs calling for justice, dignity, and safe work for all. This visibility action is part of the 50501 movement, a growing, grassroots effort uniting communities nationwide around labor rights, immigrant justice, and global solidarity.

“This isn’t a march or a rally,” said organizer Derek Windell. “It’s a chance for neighbors to stand side by side, to show love, and to reject injustice.”

Leads will arrive at 3:30 p.m. at the gazebo for a safety huddle, and participants will be welcomed at 4 p.m. The purpose of the action will be expressed to those in attendance, and safety tips will be given before the visibility action begins at 4:05 p.m.

The action will continue until 5:20 p.m., when everyone will regroup at the gazebo, discuss next steps, and clean up the area. All are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring signs, friends, and their voices.
