The residents of Silver Birch Living in Kokomo filled the dining hall early on Aug. 22, but they were there for more than a few snacks. The community named its 2025 Peach Ball king and queen with fanfare and music filling the room.

Those in attendance were welcomed by the Peach Ball princess, Miss Annelise Beasley, as she strolled from table to table, greeting each resident with a smile and an occasional blush as the ladies fawned over her. The daughter of Marketing Director Amanda Beasley, Annelise showed grace and manners with each interaction.

Once the room was filled, Life Enrichment Coordinator Nannette McVeigh took to the microphone to announce the resident who would become royalty. She began with the selection of the Peach Ball King.

“This is an individual who makes a difference in people's lives,” said McVeigh. “This is somebody who touches people's hearts. He has a great sense of humor, a great personality, and we are just so fortunate to have him be a part of our community. So. we want to say congratulations to Dean Allen!”

As Allen positioned his mobility scooter into place before the backdrop proclaiming his new title, Princess Annelise presented him with his crown, which he positioned atop his baseball cap to comedic effect. After the chuckles subsided, McVeigh announced Allen’s Peach Ball companion.

“This year's Peach Queen goes out to a very special lady who has a wonderful sense of humor, and we are just so fortunate to have her here,” said McVeigh. “Give it up for Sherry Grom!”

Grom, accompanied by her loyal canine companion Zoe, similarly maneuvered her scooter into place alongside Allen and received her crown as the crowd applauded.

The Peach Ball king and queen are not simply ceremonial titles or a gimmick. With the appointment, the pair will be ambassadors to the greater Kokomo community, making appearances at public events and charitable fundraisers, spreading goodwill and demonstrating the dignified and robust experience to be had at Silver Birch.

The ball didn’t end with the crowning, however. The residents were treated to live music, food and drink, and general merriment to round out a memorable afternoon.
