Dinner in a Bag

 

 

 

Bridgeway Church’s Mom & Tots will pass out free, shelf-stable meals to anyone in the community in need on Sun., Nov. 9, beginning at 1 p.m. in Bon Air Park, 2500 N. Purdum St. Meals will be distributed while supplies last.

 

Tumbling Classes

 

 

 

The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., is hosting tumbling classes. These hour-long classes will take place on Mondays and Thursdays at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 1 and 2 p.m. Parents are welcome to stay to observe. College Goal Sunday

 

 

 

Financial aid experts at Indiana University Kokomo make filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) easier, with free assistance available at College Goal Sunday. Support is available from 2 to 4 p.m. on November 9 in the Library, 2300 South Washington Street, Kokomo. Students planning to attend any college can attend. Students should attend College Goal Sunday with their parent(s) or guardian(s), and parent(s) should bring completed 2024 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 Forms, and other 2024 income and benefits information. Students who worked should also bring their income information. Students 24 years of age or older may attend alone and bring their completed 2024 IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 Form, or other 2024 income and benefits information. Students and parent(s) are encouraged to set up their U.S. Department of Education StudentAid.gov account at studentaid.gov before coming to the event.

Carver Community Center and Gentlemen & Scholars Inc., will present a Spelling Bee Explosion on Sun., Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Carver Center, 1013 N. Smoke Alarms for Indian Heights

 

 

 

CrisisReady Howard County is looking for volunteer to assist in providing free smoke alarms to the residents of the Indian Heights subdivision. Through Nov. 10, volunteers will distribute door hangers to residents, alerting them of the opportunity to receive free smoke alarms. Volunteer as an individual or with a group. Hand Up Pantry

 

 

 

The Center Township Trustee’s Office has opened its Hand Up Food Pantry at the township office, 213 E. Jefferson St. The pantry is open every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. The goal is to serve those experiencing food insecurity. Participants must make an appointment by calling 765-452-8259. A photo ID or proof of address is required. The pantry is accepting donations to help feed the community during the lapse in SNAP benefits. The township is accepting donations of canned vegetables, fruit, and beans, instant potatoes, soup, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, cereal, oatmeal, boxed macaroni and cheese, and shelf-stable milk. Drop off your donations at 213 E. Jefferson St., Mon-Thu from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. of Friday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

 

New Baby Bunch

 

 

 

Do you have a new bundle of joy? Or do you feel like you’re in the trenches of parenting? Join the New Baby Bunch for friendship, support, and to share your parenting journey with other caregivers. The group meets each Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road. The next meeting is Mon., Nov. 10. Kokomo Common Council

 

 

 

The Kokomo Common Council will meet on Mon., Nov. 9, beginning with an informational session at 5:30 p.m. and a public meeting at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 100 S. Union St. The council will consider a resolution to establish an economic development area, and ordinance to issue bonds not to exceed $50 million for construction within the Kokomo wastewater collection and treatment system, and an ordinance to establish an increase in wastewater rates.

 

IU Kokomo Athletics Meet and Greet

Taylor Coat Drive

 

 

 

Taylor Schools is holding a Coat Drive now through Nov. 10. The school system is accepting new and gently used coats of all sizes for distribution at its annual community Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 20. Coats may be dropped off at Taylor High School, Taylor Middle School, or Taylor Elementary School. The school is also accepting financial donations to assist in the coat drive and the meal. Turkey Trot

 

 

 

The Kokomo Family YMCA will hold its annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning, Thu., Nov. 27. Join them to work off the holiday calories while racing or strolling through downtown. This timed race offers every participant a t-shirt and a medal if registration is completed by Nov. 10. Howard County Feeding Program

 

 

 

In response to the cessation of SNAP benefits, the Howard County Food Access Alliance and many community partners are offering meal sites across Howard County in November. No income restrictions. No ID required. Join your friends and neighbors at any of the meal sites to a free, warm, freshly prepared meal, and take home a bag of groceries to carry you through for a few days. The Greentown Historical Society will hold its 2025 Annual Meeting and Dinner on Thu., Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the Keystone Cooperative Community Building on the Howard County 4H Fairgrounds in Greentown. The guest speaker for the event will be Stephen Hall, a 1963 graduate of Purdue University who worked for NASA. The facility is handicap accessible.

Thanksgiving Outreach

 

 

 

Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School is collecting items for the St. Vincent de Paul food baskets to be distributed for Thanksgiving. Students can bring donations to school through Nov. 14 with the goal of filling 60 food boxes. Preschool, Pre-K, 3rd, 4th, and 6th graders are asked to bring in boxed stuffing, boxes or pouches of potatoes, jars or packages of gravy, and packaged egg noodles. Students in Kindergarten, 5th, and 8th grade are asked to provide broth, canned green beans, and cream of mushroom soup. Students in 1st, 2nd, and 7th grade are asked to bring in canned fruit, brownie mix, and icing or frosting. The school also is accepting $25 gift cards to Meijer, Kroger, or Walmart.

 

SATURDAY

 

 

 

Walk with a Doc

 

 

 

This free community walking program takes place on the second Saturday of each month, led by a local healthcare provider, and is open to people of all ages and abilities. The next walk takes place Sat., Nov. 15, at 9 a.m. on the campus of Indiana University Kokomo, 2300 S. Washington St. The program allows participants to safely take a walk, learn about current health topics, and meet new people. Reading with Pet Partners

 

 

 

Kids can practice their reading skills by reading to trained therapy animals at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s main branch, 220 N. Union St., on Sat., Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. until noon.

 

Welcome Table Worship Café

 

 

 

The Welcome Table Worship Café, an informal, weekly worship gathering, takes place each Saturday. Share food and worship while inviting, welcoming, including, and valuing God’s beloved children at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road, at 4 p.m. each Saturday.

 

Cowboy Church

 

 

 

On the third Saturday of each month, Fairview Baptist Church holds Cowboy Church. It’s a combination of Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, Hymns and a lot of serious goofing off. The next Cowboy Church will take place at 4 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 15. Fairview Baptist Church is located at 2108 E Vaile Ave. behind the Walmart Plaza.
