Carver robotics squad also ranked first in coding challenge
The Carver Robo Dream Team is steadily carving out a reputation as one of the most determined and skilled young robotics groups in Indiana. Competing fearlessly against experienced programs from across the state and beyond, these Carver students continue to show that passion, preparation, and teamwork can carry you far.
Their most recent performance at the Shelbyville VEX IQ Event on Saturday, November 22, was another powerful reminder of what this team is becoming. The day started early, with an hour-and-a-half drive from Kokomo down to southern Indiana. Even before the robots hit the competition field, the team faced an unexpected challenge, one of their teammates came down with the flu, leaving them short-handed for the entire tournament. Instead of allowing that setback to rattle them, the team simply adjusted, communicated, and problem-solved their way forward, showing the same resilience off the field that they show during their matches.
Despite the adversity, the Carver Robo Dream Team finished sixth out of 38 teams in the qualifying rounds, an impressive achievement for any group, let alone a rookie team. In the finals, they rose to the moment once again, recording their second-highest score of the entire day. That performance pushed them into a remarkable second-place overall finish, an achievement that reflects both their discipline and their eagerness to grow.
Beyond the tournament standings, the team also tied for first place in the Skills Autonomous Coding Challenge, further proving that their talent extends into the technical precision and creativity that robotics demands.
Meeting multiple times each week, these students have become shining examples of hard work, curiosity, and leadership within the Carver Community Center. Their progress is helping position Kokomo as a growing hub for STEM excellence, and their dedication is inspiring everyone around them.
Congratulations to the Carver Robo Dream Team members: Rhett, Vivian, Cecelia, Hayden, and Damian on another outstanding performance. This rookie team is already turning heads, and they’re just getting started.
