Referrals are being accepted for the Adolescent Food as Medicine pilot program, “Main Character Energy: Powered by Food” scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Parents can complete referrals using the QR code included with this article or at https://form.jotform.com/261543295155055
This youth-focused program, built upon the foundation of the adult Food as Medicine diabetes education program, will offer education and interactive, hands-on lessons to Howard County children, ages 10-17 years old to promote nutrition, physical activity, limiting sugary and energy beverages, and more.
This one-day class will take place at the Purdue Extension – Howard County office, 120 E. Mulberry St., Room 105, and it will be facilitated by Allison Hillis, Howard County Extension Director, and Lisa Washington, RN, Minority Health Alliance Director. Facilitators will use evidence-based curriculum, including Operation Fit Kids and Steps to a Healthy Teen to teach the course.
