The sound of banjos, fiddles, and mandolins will echo across western Howard County once again this August as the Winding Creek Music Festival returns. But there’s something wandering in the woods this year.
That’s right. There has been a Bigfoot sighting!
Make sure to visit the Winding Creek Music Festival, Aug. 13-16, as a fantastic line-up of bands are joined by vendors, music instructors, a Sunday 5K, and that hairy forest recluse and his friends.
Tickets for the Winding Creek Music Festival are on sale now and can be purchased at www.windingcreekmusicfestival.com. A discount is available for buying tickets prior to Aug. 1. See the site for prices on single-day, three-day, and four-day tickets. The Sunday family ticket includes admission for two adults and up to four kids for just $20.
The Rotary Club of Kokomo unveiled its “Heart of Kokomo” puzzle fundraiser in May featuring the iconic “Kokomo” metal pillar in an image captured by Rotarian Lisa Collins. Funds from the puzzle marketing will be used to grow and expand existing Rotary Club scholarships.
“This project is especially important to me because it reflects what Rotary is all about – service, community, and impact,” said Rotary Club President Demian Harvey. “Our scholarship program changes lives, and this fundraiser ensures we can continue supporting students in their educational journeys.”
The three-dimensional structure, located at the entrance to Kokomo’s downtown, itself was fabricated by students in Kokomo Area Career Center, associated with Kokomo High School. Standing more than five feet tall, it was commissioned by the City of Kokomo and was conceived, constructed, and erected by Career Center students over the course of 14 days.
Brian Mikesell, Career Center welding instructor, said “the metal represents industry, and it’s rusted because this is the Rust Belt. It was a heck of a build.”
The club is marketing the 500-piece puzzles for $25 donations to its scholarship fund.
“This puzzle fundraiser has been a huge step forward in our fundraising efforts to make a bigger impact on our future students,” said past president Courtney Butler. “I am incredibly proud of our fundraising committee this year, Demian Harvey and Alan Girton, for their hard work and dedication to the education of our students. I can’t wait to see this project and grow and watch the impact across Howard County.”
