Silver Birch brings hot air balloon rides back for second year

Taking a ride in a hot air balloon might be on the bucket list for quite a few people, but the residents at Silver Birch of Kokomo can mark that experience off their scorecards. For the second year in a row, the facility brought the colorful dirigible back to the community, and there were smiles everywhere … even on the balloon.
The enrichment event, known as an “Ageless Adventure” at Silver Birch, involved more than just a ride into the sky. There was a DJ spinning popular tunes, a hot dog cookout, ice cream, cornhole games, face painting, and even a miniature petting zoo from Wrangler and Friends.
Last year, the hot air balloon rides were largely limited to residents of Silver Birch, but this year the company opened up opportunities for friends and family of the residents. They even held a drawing for a lucky visitor to take a ride. And just like last year, the residents lined the sidewalk north of the facility, anxiously awaiting their turn.
Also like last year, the organizers of the event couldn’t have gotten luckier when it came to the weather. The skies were clear and sunny. There wasn’t more than a light breeze in the air, and the temperatures remained tolerable in the early evening.
The hot air balloon ride is just one of many enrichment activities Silver Birch provides for its residents in Kokomo. There are parties and dinners just about every month, with playful seasonal themes. Live entertainers make frequent visits, and it is not unusual for the lobby at Silver Birch to play host to resources fairs, bake sales, and all manner of events and visits.
