Outdoor recreation is an essential part of a robust and fulfilling life. Children seem to understand this instinctively, but sometimes adults need a reminder. The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department (KPRD) hopes to reach every citizen of the city, young or old, with its Park Passport program.

The passport is designed to encourage residents to experience the city's many parks and the programming that takes place within them. The passport is a booklet filled with information about park locations and the many events taking place in 2025.

The passport also serves as a record for participants in the program. There are two pages within the passport designated for stamp collecting. There is a stamp station located in each of the participating parks. Visitors can obtain stamps for their passport by visiting these stations.

Additional stamps are available to participants to who take part in certain programs throughout the summer. The parks department encourages participants to use the passport as a log or diary as well, jotting down dates and notes about the unique experiences they have while visiting the parks.

The program is already underway, as the rescheduled Easter Egg Hunt takes place this evening, April 24. The Silly Safaris event on Saturday, April 26, in Jackson Morrow Park is also part of the passport program. Details on upcoming events are included in the passport.

The 18 stamps include:

  • Attending an event at Kokomo Municipal Stadium
  • Enjoying Kokomo Beach
  • Utilizing the Kokogo Bike Share
  • Visiting the Elwood Haynes Museum
  • Visiting the Kirkendall Nature Center in Jackson Morrow Park
  • Attending at least one of five Playground Parties in June and July
  • Participating in events held at Highland Park, Bon Air Park, and Mohr Park
  • Playing in a Water Spray at a city park, presented by the Kokomo Fire Department
  • Enjoying an evening of music at one of the Foster Park Kokomo Summer Concert Series productions
  • Attending a Creature Feature at Jackson Morrow Park
  • Attending an outdoor Movie Night at the Foster Park Arts Pavilion
  • Letting the doggos run wild at Pooches at the Pool at Kokomo Beach
  • Taking part in a Craft Fest, with times and dates to be announced
  • Relaxing with some Yoga in the Park from June to September
  • Pumpkin Painting at Jackson Morrow Park in October
  • Celebrating Halloween at the Monster Mash Bash at Jackson Morrow Park

The passport contains information about times and dates for many of these events, as well as other activities that don't directly contribute to a stamp. The passport also points out that three stamps can be completed simply by participating in KPRD's Recreation Adventure Program (RAP) in June and July, held in Highland, Bon Air, and Mohr parks.

Once the passport is complete, participants can present their booklet to the parks department and receive a prize. Those who obtain six of the 18 available stamps will receive a day pass to Kokomo Beach. Obtaining 12 stamps will earn a KPRD swag bag, and collecting all 18 stamps will get the participant a KPRD t-shirt.

The KPRD Park Passport program runs through the end of 2025. The passports can be picked up at the KPRD office in Highland Park, 1402 W. Defenbaugh St. Additional information and announcements on park programs can be located on the KPRD Facebook page as well as on Instagram @kokomoparksandrec
