Downtown Kokomo is giving the community an early look at what’s ahead with the announcement of this year’s First Fridays themes, bringing a full season of arts-centered events and themed experiences to the heart of the city.
Presented by the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association, First Fridays are themed, arts-centered community events that highlight downtown Kokomo’s businesses, artists, and creative energy. Held on the first Friday of select months, the events invite residents and visitors to explore downtown through extended business hours, local vendors, live entertainment, and interactive experiences. Family-friendly activities typically run from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
During First Fridays, downtown shops, restaurants, and organizations host casual open houses, special offers, and pop-up experiences. The event brings together local businesses, artists, and vendors from across the community, creating opportunities to connect, build relationships, and contribute to downtown Kokomo’s continued growth.
The 2026 First Fridays themes include:
- May 1: Art Blooms Downtown -- A showcase of art and creative expression in downtown’s growing arts scene.
- June 5: Strawberry Festival -- An extended First Friday held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., offering a full day of festivities at one of Kokomo’s most beloved summer traditions.
- July 4: Stars, Stripes, and Summer Nights -- A reimagined First Friday held on Saturday, July 4, as part of a larger downtown celebration recognizing America’s 250th birthday.
- Aug. 7: Get Schooled -- A show of school spirit paired with opportunities for families to connect with community resources and downtown businesses.
- Sept. 4: Arts, Eats & Beats -- A lively mix of local art, food, and music throughout downtown.
- Oct. 2: Masquerade -- One of the largest First Fridays of the year, inviting guests to enjoy an early start to Halloween with costumes, creativity, and themed activities.
- Nov. 6: Sip, Shop, & Stroll Local -- A festive evening focused on supporting local businesses while kicking off the holiday shopping season.
- Dec. 4: Merry & Bright -- A cheerful, holiday-themed celebration to close out the year.
“First Fridays are about opening the doors and inviting people in,” said Casie Braden, downtown manager for the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance. “These events help showcase the businesses, artists and organizations that make downtown Kokomo an active and welcoming place.”
At 8 p.m., the evening continues with First Friday After Hours, where select bars, pubs, shops, and venues remain open with expanded offerings, live music, and entertainment. First Friday After Hours is open to guests ages 21 and older.
“First Fridays continue to be an impactful way to bring people together while supporting local businesses and artists,” said Lori Dukes, Alliance president and CEO. “The 2026 lineup builds on that momentum and reinforces downtown Kokomo as a place to gather, create and celebrate.”
