The change you've prayed for often takes place after the crisis
This article is brought to you by the Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market. There’s more going on at the Market than you probably realize! For instance, did you know about our Little Sprouts program? Children who visit the Market can engage in a variety of learning activities, absorbing knowledge about nutrition and agriculture. Participating means earning Sprout Bucks, which can be used to purchase products from Market vendors.
It’s just another reason why you and your family should make your way downtown to the intersection of Mulberry and Washington streets this Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon for another wonderful Market day!
You know, storms have always been interesting to me. Weather storms, in my opinion, are one of nature’s coolest things. They’re not always fun to go through. The wind picks up. The rain starts pouring. Thunder shakes the house, and lightning can make some people a little nervous. But when you stop and think about it, they’re really pretty incredible.
You know how storms work, don’t you? Usually, it’s when a warm front moves in and pushes out the cold air, or a cold front moves in and pushes out the warm air. Those two different conditions coming together create the perfect environment for a storm. Sometimes it’s just a little rain, and other times it can become severe enough to produce damaging winds or even a tornado.
I got to thinking that life works a lot like that.
Every one of us is going to go through storms. That’s just part of life. It’s never a question of if we’ll face one. It’s only a matter of when. We’ll all have moments that test us, stretch us, and make us wonder what God is doing.
But here’s something I’ve noticed.
Before a storm ever gets here, we’re usually wishing for something to change. If it’s been hot outside, we’ll say, “Man, I wish we’d get a little cool breeze.” If it’s been cool, we’ll wish it would warm up a bit. Then the storm comes through. It may be uncomfortable while it’s happening, but when it’s over, the atmosphere has changed. The very thing we were hoping for often came because of the storm.
That made me think about life. How many times have we prayed for change but wanted to avoid the process that would bring it? We want things to get better, but we don’t want to walk through anything uncomfortable to get there.
So maybe we shouldn’t be in such a hurry to shoo every storm away. Maybe we shouldn’t spend all of our energy trying to avoid it. Sometimes the very thing that feels like it’s interrupting our lives is actually bringing the change we’ve been asking for.
You never know. On the other side of that storm just might be the answer you were looking for.
