Carver hosts holiday program after school abandons the tradition

Some weeks ago, it came to light that there would be no Christmas program held at school for some children in Kokomo. For many families, this tradition is a meaningful part of the season—an opportunity for children to sing, celebrate, and experience the joy of Christmas together. When Hannah Burnett, a mother of two, shared her disappointment and heartbreak over the situation on social media, she likely did not anticipate how quickly her words would spark action.

Almost immediately, Brenda Barnett felt a stirring in her heart. What began as a simple post soon became the seed for something far greater. Determined that children would not miss out on this special experience, Brenda set out to help make a Christmas program happen—one that would welcome elementary-aged children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in such a meaningful event.

“When I saw Hannah’s post about being heartbroken about our kids not getting to experience a Christmas program at our school, the Lord immediately spoke to my heart to try and make this program happen for all the elementary children who may not have had the opportunity otherwise to experience something like this,” Barnett shared.

From that moment, plans moved quickly, and in just over a week, a Christmas program came together at Carver Community Center. The result was an evening filled with joy, laughter, and memories that will likely stay with the children for years to come. The program featured cheerful singing, including classics like “Jingle Bells,” complete with actual bells in hand and lightly choreographed movements that brought smiles to both performers and audience members. Familiar faces filled the crowd—parents, family members, and friends—offering encouragement, applause, and plenty of photos to capture the moment.

While the music and excitement were memorable, the true purpose of the gathering was never lost. At the heart of the program was the story of Jesus and the sacrifice He made on the cross for our salvation. The children were reminded that Christmas is more than lights and songs—it is about hope, love, and the gift of Christ.

“The Christmas Program at Carver blessed me more than I could’ve imagined,” Barnett said. “To see how the Lord worked in just a little over a week’s time to prepare was so amazing and beautiful. His presence was absolutely in that space, and I’m so thankful for the kids shining the true meaning of the season.”

What began as disappointment was transformed into a powerful reminder of what can happen when compassion meets faith and action.
