Carolyn Sue Street
Carolyn Sue Street, 77, of Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home. She was born on December 18, 1946, in New Castle, the daughter of Rev. James A. and Frances V. (Whited) Sutherland.
Carolyn graduated from Kokomo High School in 1965. She then went to attend Indiana Wesleyan University where she studied Psychology. Carolyn worked as a Home Health Aid for Bona Vista and Private Duty Care. She loved to sing and spend time with her grandchildren. Carolyn was a great mother and will be dearly missed. She sang on praise teams at many churches and was a member of the Carpenter’s House Church.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Charissa Williams, and Ray Polk; grandchildren, Sharaya Williams, Arianna Polk, Tonia Polk, Brooke Williams, Raychel Polk, Imaanei Williams, ChaMeera Thomas, Dillan Walker, and Bryce Walker; great grandchildren, Sariyah Allen, Saron Allen, Steven Allen Jr., Nashad Allen, and Nakhi Allen; brother, Rev. Paul Sutherland; special niece, Sherri Sutherland; and many more nieces and nephews.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Adeena Street; siblings, Eva Smith, Charles Sutherland, Naomi Marie Fowler, Marilyn Forkner, Peggy Stipes, James Sutherland, and Sara Rood.
A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Carpenter’s House, 37 County Road West 550 N, Kokomo, with Rev. Paul Sutherland and Pastor Dan Meyers officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday, at the church. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Crown Point Cemetery. Jay Alan Martin
Jay Alan Martin, 57, of Kokomo, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born on April 10, 1967, in Kokomo, to James “Marty” and Sheryl (Johnson) Martin.
Jay was a 1985 graduate of Haworth High School. He worked as a carpenter doing intricate finish carpentry for Fortune Management. Jay enjoyed fishing, camping, kayaking, playing pool, and grilling out and was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Indianapolis Colts. He was a member of the Kokomo Shrine Club.
Survivors include his companion of 30 years, Debbie Mills; children, Jordan Martin, Jacob Martin, Alisha (Anthony) Landrum, Tara Mills, and Ashley Mills; and grandchildren, Kenzie Martin, Jasmine Mills, Jaylen Mills, Alysiah Mills, Bryson Rinearson, Brylynn Rinearson, Brian “Junior” Rinearson, and Millie Rinearson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home – Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson Street, Kokomo, with Kenny Cockrell officiating. Pamela (Pam) Anne Ashcraft (Horoho)
Pamela (Pam) Anne Ashcraft (Horoho), age 67, of Greentown, IN, and Port St. Lucie, FL, became absent from her body and present with the Lord around 4:40 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024. She was born on October 3, 1956, to Ned and Phyllis Horoho of Greentown.
A Greentown native, she was a true Eastern Comet. She was active in band, swimming, and the Cometones as well as a Student Council President and Salutatorian. After graduating in 1975, she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth (Ray) Ashcraft, Jr. Her perseverance was quickly put to the test while she juggled college, parenthood, and employment all while navigating married life. Education was important to her, obtaining her Bachelor’s and, later in life, her Master’s.
She worked as an Integrated Circuit (IC) Process Engineer for Delco Electronics starting in 1980. A member of the National Committee that standardized the nickel-plated bump process for integrated circuits, she was able to travel throughout Asia and Europe.
She was an active, long-term member of her church, Sycamore Friends. She was in a bowling league with friends, a bassoonist for the Kokomo Symphony, in the Greentown Community Choir, and participated in Brethren Way of Christ and mission trips. She raised three children, Jeremy, Kara, and Sean, and was very active with and supportive of their hobbies and activities. She loved to travel with her family and spent many years enjoying lake life in North Webster, IN. Toward the end of her life, her husband and she spent time in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Preceding her in death is her father, Ned Horoho, as well as her older brother, David Horoho.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth (Ray) Ashcraft, Jr., Port St. Lucie and Greentown; her mother, Phyllis Horoho, Purcell, OK; her younger brother, Mike (Karen) Horoho, Purcell, OK; as well as her children, Jeremy (Rachael) Ashcraft, Gig Harbor, WA; Kara Riley, Greentown; and Sean Ashcraft, Muncie, IN.
Surviving grandchildren are Kieran Ashcraft, Gig Harbor; Allison Ashcraft, Gig Harbor; Coraline Riley, Greentown; and Quinn Ashcraft, Gig Harbor. Pam has many surviving nieces and nephews.
Pam was saved by the grace of God through faith in what Christ completed on the cross. His death, burial, and resurrection conquered sin and the grave. At the time of her salvation, she was complete, accepted by the Beloved, and reconciled to God, all through Christ. We can find comfort knowing that she was and is at peace with God.
Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Pam and visit with the family from 1p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Sycamore Friends Church in Greentown, IN, 1148 N 1100 E, Greentown. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. that day at the same location. The burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery following the service. William M. "Buck" Christopher
William M. "Buck" Christopher, age 90, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at North Woods Village. He was born on April 8, 1934, in Cuzick, KY, to the late William Elmer and Fannie Mae (Foster) Christopher. He married Betty B. (Poe) Christopher, and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2010.
Buck retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass after over 30 years of employment. Buck and his late wife, Betty, were both past members of the Eagles. He was an animal lover such as chickens, rabbits, and array of birds. Buck also enjoyed traveling to animal swap meets and flea markets. He never met a stranger. Buck loved to tell stories and meet new people. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Leanne "Byrd"(Tom) Swafford and Patty Krippenstapel; son, Roger Christopher; grandchildren, Rhiannon Hart, Chris Swafford, Collin Christopher, and Wolfgang Krippenstapel; great-granddaughter, Jaeley Shuck; brother, Dallas Roger Christopher; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death is his loving wife, Betty; and siblings, Lizzy, Clay, Lonnie, Linda, Mary, Lillie, and Fern.
There will be a time of visitation for Buck on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, IN. Kenneth Cockrell will be officiating. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery.
Nicky Arnett
Nicky Arnett, 73, Fairmount, passed away Monday May 27, 2024, at his home. He was born May 16, 1951, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, the son of the late Harold D. & Gladys (Bradley) Arnett.
Nicky was a 1969 graduate of Marion High School. He retired from Chrysler Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Sons of Legion. Nicky was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a child, but he never let that hold him back. In 2002 he had a kidney transplant which was followed by a pancreas transplant in 2003. Nicky refused to let his health concerns get in the way of living his best life. Many people have said he is the strongest man they’ve ever known. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, loved to participate in Poker runs and charity rides, especially for Angels for Kids. Nicky was an avid Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts fan. As a hobby he enjoyed repairing small engines. One of his greatest accomplishments was completely restoring his 1974 Harley-Davidson. He had a great sense of humor, loved making people laugh, telling jokes and was an animal lover. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone however he could. His family meant the world to him, and he made sure they knew how much they were loved.
Nicky is survived by his children, Anthony Arnett, Rusty Rayburn, Giovanna (Joe Long) Myers and Nicholas B. (Heather) Arnett; grandchildren, Carley Arnett, Ariel Arnett, Braxton Rayburn, Chelsea Rayburn, Gracie Long, Caelan Long, Layne Arnett and Aivah Arnett; his first great-grandchild due in January; siblings, Tonya (Bob) Roth and Diana (George) Chaplin; nieces and nephew, Derek Timmons, Holly Schroder and Charlene Chaplin.
Nicky was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Arnett; and granddaughter, Baily Henry.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Patsy Ann Janousek
Patsy Ann Janousek, a beacon of creativity and intelligence, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2024, at the age of 79 in her hometown of Kokomo, IN, where she was also born on July 11, 1944. Patsy's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her unwavering dedication to her family and passions.
Born to the late Walter and Myrtis Tomlinson, Patsy was a proud graduate of Kokomo High School. She furthered her education at Ivy Tech, where she earned an Associate's degree in Computer Science, showcasing her intelligence and adaptability. Patsy's academic achievements laid a foundation for a life marked by continuous learning and innovation.
Patsy's heart was always fullest when surrounded by her beloved family. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Richard, who stood by her side in a partnership defined by mutual respect and love. Her legacy continues through her son, Glenn Janousek, and daughter, Twana Hunt (married to Robert), who will carry forward her teachings and memories. Patsy's joy was multiplied by her grandchildren, Autumn, Brooke, Angela, Marissa, Angel, and Richard, who will remember her as a guiding light and a source of endless support.
A woman of many interests, Patsy's love for fishing was unparalleled. She found solace and excitement in the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the catch. Her digital farming endeavors on Facebook brought her a sense of community and enjoyment, connecting with friends and family over shared virtual experiences. Patsy's evenings were often spent engrossed in her favorite TV shows and movies, a pastime that allowed her to explore new worlds from the comfort of her home.
Patsy's creativity shone through in all aspects of her life, whether she was solving problems with grace or infusing her daily activities with imagination. Her faith-filled nature was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges with hope and resilience. Intelligent in thought and conversation, Patsy was known for her insightful perspectives and her ability to engage with complex ideas with ease.
As we bid farewell to Patsy Ann Janousek, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that touched so many. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Fredrick Dean Blue
Fredrick Dean Blue, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 27, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on November 4, 1935, in Flora, IN, to the late Fredrick P. and Dorothea (Flora) Blue, Fredrick's life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and community involvement.
Fredrick, affectionately known as Fred to his friends and family, graduated from Carrollton Township High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of dedication and service. He went on to co-own Thermodyn Heating and Cooling, where his expertise and commitment to quality left a lasting impact on the community.
Fredrick's life was filled with love and laughter, shared with his beloved wife of 66 years, Janis (Exmeyer) Blue. Together, they raised four sons: Brett Blue (Trudy), Brian Blue (Joan), Mark Blue, and Randy Blue (Tracy). Fredrick's legacy continued to grow with his grandchildren Sean Blue (McKenzie), Mikhail Blue, Drew Zerante, Zach Blue, Chris Blue, Brandon Blue (Ericca), Ryan Wilson, Kasie Harrington (Matthew), Alyssa Lund (Ryan), and Tyler Blue. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Kaydence, Kreighton, Juniper, Chloe, Alayna, Coraline, Remington, Annsley, Eleanor, Cylis, Nikita, Dominic, Ronin, Evander, and Quinn, who brought him immeasurable joy along with many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Mary Blue.
Fredrick's life was marked by his jovial nature and his ability to make others laugh. He was a friendly presence in the community, always ready with a joke or a helping hand. His handy skills were not only evident in his professional work but also in the countless projects he undertook for family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Fredrick loved fishing and enjoyed hunting, often sharing these passions with his sons and grandchildren. His green thumb was evident in the bountiful vegetable garden he cultivated, a source of pride and nourishment for his family. Fredrick and Janis also shared a love for square dancing, starting with Circus City Paws and Taws in the 1960s and later becoming members of the Dancing Clowns group, where they made lifelong friends and memories.
Fredrick's simple pleasures included savoring his coffee and indulging in ice cream sundaes, moments of contentment that he cherished deeply. He found enjoyment listening to country music. His beloved cat, Jasmine, who followed him in passing just a few days later, was often by his side during these quiet times.
Preceded in death by his parents, his grandchildren Megan Horton and Joel Blue, his siblings Anne Spangler and husband "Amos" and Jerry Blue, and a daughter in law, Laurie Blue. Fredrick's memory will be held in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His warmth, humor, and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
