Joseph Anthony Russell

Joseph Anthony Russell, a cherished son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024, in his hometown of Kokomo, IN, at the age of 50. Born on September 7, 1973, to William and Sue K. Russell, Joseph's life was one of unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.

A proud graduate of Columbine High School in Denver, CO, Joseph's work ethic and amiable nature were evident early in his life. His professional journey was diverse, with a history of service ranging from his early days at Ambassador Steel to his time in the kitchen at Tom Thumb and the Hoosier Bar. Joseph also dedicated his efforts to Chip Dale Ground Maintenance before finding his true calling as the superintendent of the grounds for the American Legion golf course, where he served with passion and excellence for the last eight years.

Joseph's love for his children was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind his beloved son Casey and his wife Erica Marie Hankins, and Joseph’s adored daughter, Hensley Sue Hankins, bonus daughters Blasie Pyle, Isabella Ramer. His joy was multiplied with the birth of his granddaughter, Willow Hankins, who brought a new spark to his eye. Joseph was a brother to Tim and Brian Russell, and his familial bonds extended to his aunt Dennise Culbertson and her husband Joe, who will miss him deeply.

Those who knew Joseph will remember him as a man who lived with a loving and selfless heart. His friendly demeanor made him a cherished companion to many, and his presence was a source of comfort and camaraderie. Joseph had a passion for western adventures and comedy movies, which he enjoyed in the company of friends and family. His laughter and light-hearted spirit were infectious and brought joy to all those around him.

The American Legion was more than a workplace for Joseph; it was a second home. The camaraderie he found there among friends and colleagues was a source of great happiness. His commitment to maintaining the beauty of the golf course was a testament to his love for nature and his dedication to providing a welcoming space for veterans and community members alike.

Joseph's life was a tapestry woven with the love of his family, the loyalty of his friends, and the satisfaction of a job well done. His selfless nature was evident in every aspect of his life, from the way he raised his children to the way he served his community. He was the kind of man who would offer a helping hand without a second thought, and his legacy of kindness and friendship will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the New Beginnings Christian Church, 1900 S. Berkley Rd. with Pastor Jeff Russell officiating. Memorial donations may be given the Joseph Russell memorial fund for his children at Solidarity Bank.
