Irmgard “Irma” Lotte (Breda) Becraft

Irmgard “Irma” Lotte (Breda) Becraft, 88, of Kokomo, passed away 1:52 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at her home. She was born in Germany on December 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Walter and Anna Breda. Irma was married to Herbert Becraft for nearly 45 years, and he preceded her in death on May 19, 2001.

Irma formerly worked at Cuneo and Kingston Press. She was a homemaker who cared for her husband and raised her daughter. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing, listening to country music, attending the casino, and playing euchre.

Irma is survived by her daughter, Lori Green; grandchildren, Brianna Becraft, Chris Becraft; great-grandchildren, Rylee Lea, Runnar Lea, Zi’air Becraft, Ruth Becraft, Jy’ree Harmon-Becraft, Ruebn Becraft, Riah Becraft, T.N., Stacy Nelson, Jody Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; husband, Herbert; and special friend, Bruce Price.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home – Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson St., Kokomo, IN 46901. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home – Jefferson Street Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.



Edward Z. Prescott

Edward Z. Prescott passed away on Sept. 4, 2024, in Kokomo. He was born on March 31, 1933.

A funeral service will be held for Edward on Thu., Sept. 12, from 2-3 p.m. at New Testament Apostolic Church, 3041 Westmoor Dr., Kokomo. Visitation for friends and family will take place from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral at the church.



Francis Eugene Ley

Francis Eugene Ley, 85, of Tipton, died Sunday, September 8, 2024, at I.U. Tipton Hospital. He was born in rural Tipton County on April 4, 1939, to Clarence “Bud” and Eva (Weeks) Ley. He grew up in Hobbs, enjoying his childhood in this comfortable community.

Francis was a 1957 graduate of Tipton High School. He retired from Steel Parts Corporation after 47 years where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union #3875 and had served as the President. He served his country in the National Guard and his community as a member of the Madison Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Hobbs Christian Church and belonged to the Moose Lodge in Tipton. Francis served as a precinct committee member for the local Democrat Party. He never knew a stranger.

He had a large focus on the youth and outdoor activities. He served as a foster parent for many years. He enjoyed raising 4-H pigs, and he helped start the horse and pony 4-H club as well as the Circle FZ Saddle Club. This spurred his interest in horse riding over the years. He was a member of the Mid America Threshing Association. Many will remember his devotion to coaching in the Pee Wee and Minor League baseball teams, and he spent hours in the bowling alley participating in several leagues. He greatly loved to coon hunt and twirl his partner on the square dance floor.

If one knew Francis, they would certainly be able to see his love and devotion to his family. He relished the title of “Dad,” “Papaw,” and “Great-Papaw”.

Survivors include his daughter Teia Ley (Cindy Mills Ley) of Tipton and his son Chad Ley (Rebecca) of Elwood. Grandchildren are: Cheyenna Mills (Drew Randolph), Haydon Ley (Aubrie Irvin), and Kyra Ley. Francis was blessed with a great-grandson, Hudson Eugene Ley. His siblings include Judy Mallott (Rex) of Greentown, Phillip Ley (Janice) of Tipton, Norma Gibbons of Elwood and a special friend Rex Powell (Nancy) of Tipton. Francis has several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.

Francis was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jacquelin Janel (Hutson) Powell and his children Chris Ley, Dale Ley and Sally Vandevender, and siblings Robert Francis, Shirley Sage and husband Clarence, and brothers–in-law Byrd Gibbons and Larry Retherford.

Funeral services will be on Friday, September 13, at 1:00 P.M. at Young-Nichols Funeral home with Rev. Matt Gaylor presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and also on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until service time.

Phyllis Darlene Cummings

Phyllis Darlene Cummings, age 74, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. She was born July 3, 1950, to the late Henry and Ethel David.

Phyllis was the first woman electrician at General Motors. She retired after 30 years. She enjoyed golfing and doing crafts. She was loved by everyone and was the matriarch of her family and her extended family.

She is survived by her sons Jonathon H. Dickey and Michael Dickey, stepson Zack Cummings (Patti), grandchildren; Lucas Cummings, Christian Dickey, and Aiden Dickey, great grandchild Ava Dickey, and Brother Ronald David (Jackie).

In addition to her parents Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Robert Cummings Jr. and her sisters Brenda David and Marla David.
