Barbara Lou (Hawkins) Headley

Barbara Lou (Hawkins) Headley, 85, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 4, 1940, in Sims, Indiana, to her parents Arthur Hawkins and Paula (Allison) Hawkins. Barbara married the love of her life Jimmie Headley on September 17, 1960, and the two were very thankful to have nearly 65 years together.

Barbara graduated from Fort Myers High School in the class of 1958. She went on to earn her LPN at the Indianapolis School of Nursing. Barbara worked as a nurse for several years, and then decided she wanted to pursue childcare. Barbara loved children and was incredibly patient. She truly had all the qualities needed to not just provide quality care, but Barbara was also able to encourage and nurture each child to learn, grow, explore, and be creative. Childcare was her passion, and it was a joy to watch Barbara in her element.

After dedicating many years to in-home childcare, Barbara decided to pursue another passion: cooking. She worked for Lincoln Elementary School as head cook. She enjoyed the work very much and went on to open up The Soda Shop and Headley’s Cafeteria in Tipton. Barbara loved serving and enjoyed running a business. These special places are still fondly remembered by many. After a good run, Jimmie and Barbara decided to close the restaurants. Barbara finished out her working years doing what she loved, caring for children.

After Jimmie and Barbara retired, they took every opportunity they had to travel. They loved their adventures with one another as well as with their dear family. From the time their children were little they enjoyed camping, canoeing, and fishing. Barbara especially always had an appreciation of nature and enjoyed being outdoors. In 2005, Barbara and Jimmie were able to experience the beauty of Alaska. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip with memories to go on for many years to come.

Barbara lived a full life. She was energetic, driven, and confidently took on challenges. If she really wanted to do something, she did it! She has encouraged her children and grandchildren to live the same way. Barbara was upbeat, easy going, yet incredibly goal oriented. She understood the power of always having something to look forward to! Because of her mindset, she was able to brighten many lives over the years. She will be missed for so many reasons, but those close to her will greatly miss her cooking and cake making. She poured a lot of love into those acts, and it was obvious! Barbara was truly an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She truly possessed so many gifts and talents; and those around her were thankful that she shared them so freely!

Those left to carry on Barbara’s legacy of love are her husband Jimmie Headley, children Kevin (Karen) Headley, Stephanie (Paul) Charapata, and Kelli (Michael) Stercula, bonus son Ronnie Rose, grandchildren Christina, Wesley, Corbin (Elizabeth), James (Becca), Maxwell, Jacob (Ashley), Jeffrey, Mitchell, and Abigail, and great-grandchildren Aadyn, Carson, Macey, Chelsea, Alexandera, and Carson.

Barbara was welcomed into Heaven by her parents Arthur and Paula Hawkins, and her siblings Carabell, Sonny, Emery, Lavon, Peggy, William, and Sharon.

The Headley family would like to thank the staff at The Waters of Tipton, as well as Holly and Karla (nurses with Paradigm Hospice). The exceptional care and compassion you provided throughout this journey will be forever remembered.

Out of respect for Barbara’s wishes, private family services will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara's honor to the Alzheimer's Association.

Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Headley family in their time of need.

Susan G. Gibson

Susan G. Gibson, a devoted daughter, loving sister, and cherished aunt passed away on April 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and fur babies.

Born February 12, 1958, to Bobby and Shelby (Clark) Gibson, Susan grew up with a heart full of generosity and deep empathy for others. She was a graduate of Haworth High School, class of 1976, and a proud member of Northview Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Susan spent her life pouring herself into the things that mattered most to her: her family, her beloved pets, crafts, and traveling.

Taking care of animals was not what we would call a passion for Susan; it was a calling. She believed every creature deserved love, safety, and to be cared for. Her home was always filled with the presence of her fur babies - each one a testament to her generous spirit and unwavering commitment to their well-being.

Susan loved the simple things in life, everything from crafting (especially painting), taking care of her animals, traveling to warm places - like Panama City Beach, St. Thomas, and the Bahamas, but nothing thrilled her more than spending time with her family. Whether she was caring for others or creating something beautiful with her hands, Susan brought comfort and joy into every space she entered. She gave more than she ever asked for in return, and her selflessness left a lasting impression on anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Susan was the beloved sister of Nancy White, Elizabeth (Mark) Bralley, Suzan Gregory, and Julia (Steve) Johnson. She was the treasured daughter of Bobby Gibson and Judith (Rinehart) Gibson. Her role as aunt and great-aunt brought her immeasurable joy. She lit up in the presence of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and took great joy in being a part of their lives. Susan was the “playful” aunt; always the one on the floor playing with her pride and joy.

Susan was preceded in death by her loving mother Shelby (Clark) Gibson, her brother Jeff Rinehart, and two brothers-in-law Mark Dzuba and Richard Gregory. She now joins them in eternal peace.

In keeping with her gentle and humble nature, Susan’s life will be celebrated privately by her family at a later date. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation.

To honor her lifelong love of animals, the family asks if you wish to make a donation, please make it to the Kokomo Humane Society in Susan’s name. Her spirit lives on in the animals she touched, her friends, and her loving family. She will be missed beyond words but lives on through those who were lucky enough to have known her.
