Brenda Lee Black
Brenda Lee Black, 56, of Frankfort, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026. She was born in Elwood, Indiana, on June 4, 1969, a daughter of the late Wanda Shockley.
She was a 1987 graduate of Kokomo High School. She was also a graduate of Kaplan University with a B.S. in Occupational Safety.
Brenda is survived by her daughters Heather (Tobias) Shepherd of Lebanon, IN. and Brittany (Shelby) Breen of Sheridan, IN; her partner Greg Black; stepson Devin Black; siblings Ann (Donnie) Rayn and Tony Coons; five grandchildren Rachel and Lewis Shepherd, and Benjamin, Evelyn, and Theodore Breen; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother Wanda Shockley and her grandchildren Victoria, Issac, Penelope, and Angel.
Brenda loved gardening and being outdoors and loved her cats and dogs. She was strong in her faith and loved by many. She was short in stature, but that never stopped her!
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow services at Browns Wonder Cemetery in Lebanon. We are asking that if you have purple clothing to please wear it, as this was her favorite color.

Shirley J. (Fields) Shively
Shirley J. (Fields) Shively, 91, of Franklin, IN, attained the desire of her heart and went home to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunited with her beloved husband Jesse, on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community in Franklin, IN.
She was born August 21, 1934, in Fulton County, IN, to Cecil and Lula Mae (Morrett) Fields. Shirley married Jesse E. Shively on June 9, 1957, in Grass Creek, IN. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2022. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and love for others.
Shirley was a graduate of Wayne Township Schools in Grass Creek, IN, and a 1957 graduate of Purdue University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economic Vocational Education.
Throughout her life, Shirley faithfully served others in both her work and personal life. For many years, she worked as an administrative assistant for Youth for Christ Campus Life. Prior to that, she also served as a residence hall food service advisor at Purdue University and Iowa State University. Shirley had a servant’s heart and was known for her kindness, generosity, and selflessness, often placing the needs and happiness of others before her own.
A devoted Christian, Shirley and Jesse were longtime members of Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute, IN. Upon moving to Franklin, they became members of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN. Her faith in the Lord guided her life and was evident in the love and care she showed to family, friends, and everyone blessed to know her. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends, and she leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faith, and unwavering love.
Survivors include her daughter Karen L. Spangler (Brad) of Broken Arrow, OK; sons Kent A. Shively (Trisha) of Kokomo, IN, and Kevin D. Shively of Terre Haute, IN; seven grandchildren Logan A. Shively of Terre Haute, IN, Andrew M. Shively of Greentown, IN, Lauren E. Shively of Gypsum, CO, Hannah G. Diaz-Lapham of Omaha, NE, Luke J. Spangler of Kalamazoo, MI, Lilly Mathis of Indianapolis, IN, and Dallas D. Shively of Terre Haute, IN; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings Roger Fields of Grass Creek, IN, Sandra Redmaster of Fort Wayne, IN, and Richard (Sharon) Fields of Minneapolis, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jesse; and her brother John Fields.
Pastor Joe Sanford will conduct a service on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Street, Franklin, IN 46131.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon at the Wright Chapel at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN, and will continue Thursday from 1:30 PM until the time of service at Grace United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.

Callie Eulene (Surber) Butcher
Callie Eulene (Surber) Butcher of Frankfort passed away 2:46 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Wesley Manor. She was born on September 29, 1930, to Millard Filmore Suber and Ninnie Mae (Long) in Powell Valley, Tennessee.
Eulene was a graduate of Mulberry Gap School. She married Claude Butcher in Middlesboro, KY, on July 2, 1947. Claude preceded her in death on January 11, 2003. After marriage, she moved to Indiana in 1952. She loved working as a cook at Clinton Central School Corp. She retired in 1992 after 36 years. She will be lovingly remembered for her countless delicious meals and celebrating life with her family.
She is survived by her grandchildren Wendy (Jason) Duvall, Kurt (Erin) Watson, Erick (Amee) Click, and Joshua (Megan) Click; great-grandchildren William Allen Rucker II, Callie Elizabeth Rucker, Jackson Craig Rucker, Broderick Newton Rucker, Barret Anthony Watson, and Lennox Clen Watson; son-in-law Butch Click; as well as her sister Nettie Noe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Virginia Joy Click; brothers Ralph Surber, Wayne Surber, Harry Surber; and sister Pansy Noe.

Marcia L. Evans, 75, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on April 25, 2026, in the city where she was born and spent her life, surrounded by family, friends, and the community she loved. She was born on October 25, 1950, in Kokomo, Indiana, to the late Ralph and Lorraine Carter.
Marcia was a woman whose life was marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. She was generous, loving, and selfless in all that she did, and those qualities were evident to everyone who knew her. She had a warm heart and a gentle spirit, and she was always ready to help others in any way she could. Her life was built around caring for her family, welcoming others, and finding joy in the simple things that made each day meaningful.
She attended Kokomo High School and carried the values she learned there throughout her life. Marcia worked at Americana and the Moose Lodge before retiring from the FOP. Through her years of work, she was known for her dependable nature, her friendly presence, and the respect she showed to those around her. She took pride in doing her best and in being someone others could count on.
In 1993, Marcia married Bobby Evans, who survives her. Their marriage was a source of companionship and love, and together they shared many years filled with family, laughter, and support. Bobby was a devoted husband to Marcia, and their bond was one that brought comfort and happiness to both of them. She also leaves behind a large and loving family who will cherish her memory always.
Surviving are her children Michelle and Steve Pogue, Mike Nearhouse, Mark (Ronnie Willson) Nearhouse, Ladonna Johnson, Jr Evans, David Evans, and Valerie Young. She also leaves behind her foster daughter Elaine (Mike) Lane and those she held dear to her heart: John Jarrett and Zach Roller. She is also survived by her brother Rick (Joy) Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Lorraine Carter, her brother Ralph Carter, and extended family Bernie Schroder.
Marcia was a proud granny, and she treasured every moment spent with her family. Her grandchildren include Danielle West, Becca (Brandon Dowell) Jarrett, Shelby (Nate) Dowden, Katie (Creig Smith) Nearhouse, Jessica (Jeff) Waegelin, Christian Nearhouse, Rick Nearhouse, Dakota Pogue, and Zack Smallwood. Her great-grandchildren include Johnathan, Maverick, Lola, Zoey, Winter, Emmie, Audrey, and Isaac. She loved each of them deeply and found great joy in watching her family grow across the generations.
Marcia had a heart for home and a special way of making ordinary moments feel special. She loved going thrift shopping and always enjoyed the excitement of finding something unique. She had a tender place in her heart for stray cats and was known for always taking them in and caring for them. Gardening brought her peace, and she found satisfaction in tending to her plants and watching them flourish. She also loved cooking for her family, and many will remember the comfort and care she expressed through the meals she prepared. These were among the many ways she showed her love.
Those who knew Marcia will remember her for the way she cared for others without hesitation and for the steady presence she brought into the lives of those around her. She was the kind of person who gave freely of herself, asked for little in return, and made the world a better place through her actions. Her legacy will live on in the memories of her family and friends, in the lessons she taught by example, and in the love she shared so generously throughout her life.
Marcia L. Evans will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a beautiful reflection of devotion, compassion, and grace, and her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her family who will miss taking her a frosty Coke.

Tina Jo Ann Hooten
Tina Jo Ann Hooten, age 68, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born October 13, 1957, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Daniel and Mary Morris.
Tina graduated from Eastern High School, class of 1976. Tina always wanted to be a mother and was able to be just that to three amazing kids. She loved to spend her time coloring and camping. Her favorite place was Spring Mill, where Tina and her family spent many joyous occasions. She loved animals and always took care of them as if they were her child, and to her, they were. She loved so deeply, whether it was her family or her furry family.
She had a heart of gold and was always willing to step up and be there for whoever needed her, whenever they needed her. Her laugh was infectious and could make anyone follow suit. Her playful spirit and love for all things whimsical shone brightly, especially in her fondness for Betty Boop, whose charm and sparkle mirrored her own. Though life was not always the easiest, Tina persevered, and her life was a beautiful performance, filled with the joy, color, and music of the stage she so dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel Morris and Mary Morris; brothers Ernie Morris, Richard Morris, and Jeffrey Joe Morris. She is survived by her daughter Melissa Layfield; two sons Donald (Chelsea) Hooten and Joshua (Makayla) Hooten; sister Deborah (Dale) Wolford; brother Hank (Gina) Morris; mother Lynda Morris; and five grandchildren Damon, Aurianna, Autumn, Hartleigh, and Everett.
