Larry Ray Burton
Larry Ray Burton, 73, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on July 30, 2026. He was born on November 20, 1952, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Gordon Lester Burton and Ramie Lucille (Taylor) Aldridge. He married Vonda (McKinney) Burton on May 20, 1972, who survives. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Larry was employed at Chrysler for 23 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, building RC airplanes, and hunting. He was an avid music fan and was an amazing drummer. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Vonda; children Leslie (Stephen) Clark Jr., Jeremy (Courtney) Burton, and Jeff (Mylen) Philapy; grandchildren Branden (Jessica) Grigsby, Cody Clark, Evan Burton, Michael Burton, Christian Burton, Madison Burton, Gabby Philapy, and Lorraine Philapy; great-granddaughters Skylar Grigsby, Lea Grigsby, and Faith Grigsby; brother Bobby (Cathy) Burton; and sister Susie Strickland.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ruby Burton; grandson Randy Grigsby; and cousin Ronnie Giles.
Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Patricia A. Terry
Patricia A. Terry was called home by the Lord on the evening of Saturday, August 1, at Community Hospital Kokomo, surrounded by her loving family. Patty was born on May 12, 1951, at Tipton Hospital, the daughter of Robert L. and Freida Mae (Cunningham) Sallee.
Patty graduated from Tipton High School in 1969. That same year, on July 19, 1969, she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Terry at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
She began her working life as a nurse’s aide at Tipton Hospital, serving from 1969 to 1974. Even after leaving paid employment there, she continued to volunteer at the hospital for many years. In 1974, she turned her attention fully to her home and family and later spent three decades in administration at St. John the Baptist Catholic School until the school’s closure.
The church remained a central and cherished part of her life throughout the years. She found joy in antiques and the hunt of antiquing, visits to wineries, quiet time at the lake, and the beauty of flowers, which she adored.
Patty’s life was marked by quiet dedication to her family, her faith, and the community she served so faithfully.
Along with Tom, Patty’s memory is carried on and cherished by her children Michael (Heather) Terry of Sharpsville and Catherine (Greg) Retherford of Tipton; her grandchildren Brogan (Jake) Ryan, Emily (Elliott) Cage, Mallory (Sam) Davis, and Marisa Retherford (and boyfriend Trey Ehman); and Patty’s great-grandchildren Lainey, Calvin, Tessa, Tate, and a soon anticipated fifth great-grandchild. Also surviving are Patty’s siblings Vickie (Dwayne) Porter of Bardstown, KY, Marlene Grimes of Kokomo, and Susan (Jimmy) Hook of Tipton.
Patty is preceded in death by her parents, her son Brad Terry, and her brother Douglas Sallee.
Visitation will be on Tuesday August 4, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at the beginning of the visitation at 4:00 P.M. A funeral mass for Patty is planned for Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton, with Fathers Adam Mauman and Dennis Goth presiding. Burial will follow at St John’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Patty’s memory to St. John’s Church, 341 Mill Street, Tipton, Indiana 46072.

Doris Delaine South
Doris Delaine South, 85, of Kokomo, passed away peacefully at 5:19 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at North Woods Village in Kokomo. She was born on July 1, 1941, in Sumner County, Portland, Tennessee, to the late Coy Donoho and Sylvia Rhuhama (Marsh) Perdue.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years James David South, whom she married on June 24, 1960, in Folkston, Georgia.
A 1960 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and a former reigning queen of Brackentown, Tennessee, Doris devoted her life to caring for others. She spent much of her career working as a CNA in nursing homes and group homes.
One of Doris’s most endearing traits was her commitment to coordinating outfits with Jim. Whether attending school functions, graduations, reunions, weddings, funerals, or family gatherings, color coordination was a must. If the occasion mattered, matching outfits mattered, too.
Doris enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. She always looked forward to Bunco nights with her favorite twins and loved challenging herself with word jumbles and cryptograms. Creative and quick-witted, she had a gift for poetry and could often find the perfect rhyme or heartfelt words for any occasion.
Doris also enjoyed true crime documentaries, The Bold and the Beautiful, and almost any game show. She was a loyal QVC viewer and shopper. Her family often joked that QVC’s stock might never recover from her absence. She was also an avid Indiana Fever fan and especially enjoyed cheering for Caitlin Clark.
In addition to her husband James, Doris is survived by her children James David South II, Tammy Lynn (John) De Lucia, Jeffrey Allen (Dorisa “Sam”) South, Joseph Edward (Elizabeth) South, and Amy Delaine (Michael) Guerre; grandchildren Callan Nicole De Lucia, Caylan Noelle (Ben) Noble, Paul Stacey (Dustina Williams), Lorisa (Omar) Flores Cruz, Chaz Stacey, Jacob Edward South (Kayla Wagner), Lilianne Jade South (John Gehm), Lauren Jane South, Grace Delaine Guerre, and Andrew James Guerre; eight great-grandchildren; her best friend and beloved sister Beverly June Asher of Morrow OH; uncle Alton (Shirley) Perdue of Portland, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Roger Dale Perdue.
Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.
Additional visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Allen Rawlings officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Maefern Amos
On April 7, 2026, Maefern Amos, age 95, was called home by her heavenly father. She was born August 27, 1930, in Sheridan, Indiana, to Opal Mae and John Clark Renn.
Maefern graduated in 1947 from Sheridan High School and went on to attend business school in Indianapolis for accounting. On August 5, 1950, Maefern married Ned L. Amos in Phoenix, Arizona, having traveled there with friends and family. The couple would eventually settle on a 40-acre farm in Russiaville, Indiana, having rebuilt after the Palm Sunday Tornado of 1965. Maefern stayed on the farm with her three children for 16 years following the death of her husband in November of 1966.
Maefern was active in the community as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Brownie, and Girl Scout leader. She was an avid bowler and had a mean Brooklyn strike. In November 1979, Maefern and her youngest daughter Carla moved to Marana, Arizona. Margaret stayed in Indiana as a Purdue University student and John as an Indiana Vocational Tech School student. Arriving in Arizona, Maefern continued to be active in 4-H activities and started raising dairy goats. She worked for several years for the Marana Office of the Department of Economic Security, retiring at the age of 68. Maefern was active in the Community Christian Church and was the “secret church mouse,” making and distributing Christmas stockings stuffed with “this and that” for the church members.
Maefern was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters Clarann, Ladonna and Mardella, two brothers Paul and Athera, her son John William Amos, and her long-time companion Raymond Dallas Dozier.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret Woodruff (Billy), her daughter Carla, her two grandchildren Jessica Adams and Gunter Ray Adams (Miesha), and a daughter-in-law Christine Amos (John).
Maefern, we will miss the sound of your laugh, the sight of your smile and the twinkle in your eyes, usually before you said something unexpected. The things that made you special will be etched into the hearts and minds of many.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on September 12, 2026, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E Main St., Russiaville, IN. A private burial will take place in Kempton Cemetery.

Bonnie Lou Hiday
Bonnie Lou Hiday, 78, of Greentown, passed away at 10:12 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at her home. She was born on July 20, 1948, the daughter of Elmer Earl and Ruth J. (Nienaber) McClain. On July 24, 1976, she married Charles E. Hiday, who preceded her in death on August 1, 2021.
Bonnie was a 1966 graduate of Anderson High School. She loved to play BINGO and golf. Bonnie had a bubbly personality and enjoyed singing and dancing. She was also known for her stubbornness.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Mitch) Sandlin; grandchildren Parker (Autumn) Sandlin, Chance Sandlin, and Emily (J.T.) Lord; great-grandson Milo Sandlin; twin sister Becky (Mike) Eubanks; sister Toni (Pete) Cain; sisters-in-law Patty McClain and Kay McClain; several nieces and nephews; and two special cousins Chuck (Kerrie) Forehand and Diana Yates.
Along with her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her parents Elmer McClain and Ruth J. Morehead; grandson Gage Sandlin; and brothers Ronnie McClain and Gene McClain.

Barbara Josephine Garst
Barbara Josephine Garst was born July 11, 1942, in Fortville, Indiana, to Patricia Langsford Garst and George Garst. She attended St. Joseph Academy in Tipton, Indiana, and entered the Congregation of St. Joseph in Tipton on September 7, 1960. Receiving the religious habit in 1961, she was given the name Sister Mary Danielle. She made her final vows on August 15, 1966.
Having earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University in Kokomo, Indiana, Sister Danielle influenced the lives of her students for 30 years. Sister Danielle offered learning marked by a spirit of loving concern and a sense of community in Catholic schools throughout Indiana, including St. Joan of Arc of Kokomo; St. Joseph of Delphi; St. Joseph of Kentland; St. Aloysius of Yoder; St. John the Baptist of Tipton; St. John the Evangelist of Hartford City; and St. Ambrose in Seymour.
Following her teaching ministry, Sister Danielle enrolled in a Gerontology Certification Program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She worked for the Sisters of Providence as a nurse aide in the skilled unit of Karcher Hall, and as a receptionist at Providence Center. Sister Danielle was recognized for her hospitality, and in 2001 she received an Indiana Lieutenant Governor’s Hospitality Award. In 2007, Sister Danielle returned to St. Joseph Center in Tipton, where she joined the center’s coordinating team to attend to the needs of Sisters, lay residents, and guests.
With the diminishment of the Sisters at Tipton Center, Sister Danielle discerned to move to the Nazareth Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 2012. There, she ministered to help the community with driving, hospitality, and in Liturgy ministries.
Sister Danielle felt passionate about her ministry of teaching. Her philosophy in the classroom was to teach “FUN”-damentals with experiences, plus a little “FUN” along the way. Her students made butter, baked pumpkin pies using the metric system, examined the inside of a coconut, and made Lenten pretzels in the convent kitchen. Taking pleasure in these activities with students carried on later when Sister Danielle joined the Social Committee at Nazareth, where sisters enjoyed a variety of activities. She loved being receptionist at Providence Center at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN, to provide an atmosphere of welcoming hospitality to visitors. Of this ministry she said: “Offering hospitality to the dear neighbor is a charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph. My task boils down to loving others. I want to be that welcoming presence to all I meet.”
