Kokomo prevails over Peru in boys' volleyball

Boys' volleyball is new to the Indiana high school athletic landscape, but the Kokomo Wildkats played like a veteran team on April 10. The Kats won their first match of the season over the Peru Tigers by a score of 3-1.
Led by powerful play at the net from seniors Sean McCormick (outside hitter) and Konosuke Yamaguchi (setter), Kokomo scored readily against a formidable Peru team.
But the Kats' defense was just as solid. Senior libero North Muannara and freshman defensive specialist Owen Downing hit the boards often to dig out more than a few impressive saves.
Junior middle blocker Tyler Anderson found significant success turning away shots at the net, and he was joined by freshman outside hitter Alfred Ngyuen, who showed versatility on offense and defense.
And when the starters needed spelled, sophomore Ethan Landrum stepped into the role of defensive specialist along with freshman Judah Kincaid, and Taeshawn Shelton subbed in at middle blocker.
The Kats hosted Pike High School on Tuesday, April 15, and next welcome Warsaw to Kokomo on Thu., April 17. Peru, which is just starting its volleyball program, will next travel to Traders Point Christian School on April 24.
