The Howard County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the 2025 operational statistics for its K9 Unit, highlighting another year of proactive enforcement and continued commitment to public safety throughout Howard County.

During the 2025 calendar year, the K9 Unit conducted a total of 124 deployments, resulting in 82 arrests made with the direct assistance of K9 teams. These deployments included traffic stops, criminal apprehensions, narcotics investigations, and proactive patrol operations across the county. The K9 teams also assisted fellow law enforcement agencies when requested, reinforcing interagency cooperation and officer safety.

As a result of these deployments, K9 teams were directly involved in the following narcotics seizures:

  • Methamphetamine: 31 seizure incidents totaling 2,260 grams
  • Marijuana: 18 seizure incidents totaling 110.5 grams
  • Fentanyl: 20 seizure incidents totaling 100 grams
  • Cocaine: 13 seizure incidents totaling 88 grams

These seizures represent significant quantities of dangerous substances removed from our communities. Of particular concern remains the continued presence of fentanyl, a highly potent and potentially deadly opioid that poses a serious risk to public health and safety.

The success of the K9 Unit is a direct result of the dedication, training, and professionalism of both handlers and their K9 partners. The Howard County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit is comprised of two highly trained teams: K9 Fero and K9 Kees. These teams work tirelessly to detect illegal narcotics, apprehend offenders, and support patrol operations throughout Howard County.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to proactive enforcement strategies that deter criminal activity while enhancing the safety and quality of life for our residents. The measurable impact of the K9 Unit in 2025 reflects that commitment.
