Mildred Rose (Moore) Harrison

Mildred Rose (Moore) Harrison, 89, of Kokomo, passed away 7:06 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 5 Star Residences of Northwoods in Kokomo, IN. She was born in Loudon, Tennessee, on January 29, 1936, the daughter of the late Jeff “Frank” and Addie Mae (Ladd) Moore. On August 28, 1953, she married the love of her life Bill F. Harrison in New Castle, IN, and he preceded her in death on October 3, 2013.

Mildred was a homemaker who cared for her husband and their three children. After their children were all in school, she went to work at Burger King for eight years. She then worked at Howard Community Hospital for 19 years in housekeeping until her retirement. Mildred was a devoted member of Grace Apostolic Ministries. She was saved and baptized in Jesus’ name on May 7, 1967, and received the Holy Ghost. She loved Jesus and her family with all her heart. She loved sewing, and she created bridesmaid dresses for three large weddings and often sewed clothing for her children and grandchildren. She liked collecting owls and bears, among other items. Mildred found joy in taking pictures and getting her picture taken. She will be remembered for having a funny sense of humor.

Mildred is survived by her children Diane (Charles “Buster”) Arnett, Marvin (Judy) Harrison, and Lisa (Bobby Obanion) Arnett, grandchildren Amy (Fred) Schorm, Aaron (Liza) Arnett, Ashley (Ruben) Alvarado, Whitney (Justin) Easley, Brandon (Hanna) Arnett, Robert Harrison, Autumn (Aric) Geesaman, Summer Gibson, Heather Williams, Ryan Harrison, Ernie Joe Harrison, 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, a sister, two grandsons, and son-in-law Max Arnett.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at Grace Apostolic Ministries, 616 Touby Pike, Kokomo, IN 46901. A funeral service celebrating Mildred’s life will begin 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the church with Pastor Joe David Wampler and Seth Koon officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Mildred’s memory to Grace Apostolic Ministries. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

Barbara Joanne Unger

Barbara Joanne Unger, 99, of Kokomo, passed away at Bloom of Kokomo on Friday, May 2, 2025. She was born in Kokomo on August 4, 1925 to the late William Clyde and Hazel (Booher) Alley. She married Charles Unger on August 22, 1953 in New Mexico, and he passed away in June of 1977.

After Barbara graduated from Kokomo High School, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 10 years. She went on to eventually meet her husband, Charles, and they were married in New Mexico in 1953. She was a homemaker for many years. Barbara went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and was a teacher at Valparaiso schools for a few years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed painting and knitting.

Barbara is survived by nieces and nephews.

Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles, brothers Don Alley, Nolan Alley, Ogden Alley, Norman Alley, and Virgil Alley, and sisters Pauline Shockley and Gladys Pitzer.

The family of Barbara would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Bloom of Kokomo for the special care they have given their Aunt Barbara throughout her stay there.

There will be a graveside service for Barbara on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Kokomo Memorial Park, 1300 East North Street, Kokomo, Indiana.



Carl “Dee” Stakelbeck

Carl “Dee” Stakelbeck, age 80, of Tipton, Indiana, passed away on May 7, 2025, at The Waters of Tipton. He was born on June 5, 1944, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Carl D. and Blanche (Franks) Stakelbeck. On December 7, 1974, he married Grace E. “Beth” (Law).

Dee graduated from Prairie High School in 1962. He dedicated 25 years of his career as a foreman at Continental Steel in Kokomo until its closure. He then worked at Curtis Dyna Fog in Westfield, and Steel Parts Corporation in Tipton before he retired in 2016.

A resident of Ekin, Indiana, for 40 years before moving to Tipton, Dee was actively involved in his community as a member of East Union Christian Church in Atlanta, Indiana. He cherished time spent with family and friends, and his passion for fishing often led him on various trips to Minnesota.

In addition to his wife of 50 years Beth Stakelbeck of Tipton, Dee is survived by his children Lisa Pierce of Sharpsville, Debbie Small and husband Gino of Atlanta, Brian Stakelbeck of Kempton, Mindy Newton and husband Charlie of Lafayette, and Mike Stakelbeck and wife Kimberly of Noblesville. He also leaves behind a sister Linda Knoderer and her husband Roc of Carmel.

Dee was a proud grandfather to Josh Small, Keagan Mendenhall, Ryan Pierce, Kristen Pierce, Kendra Stakelbeck, Ellary Small, Shelby Reese, Brock Stakelbeck, Jordan Newton, and Hailey Stakelbeck.

He was also a loving great-grandfather to Grace Pierce, Lily Pierce, Levi Small, Isaac Small, Henry Pyke-Pierce, River Mendenhall, Wyatt Mendenhall, Bentlee Pyke-Pierce, Felix Reese, Maddox Reese, and Baby Reese.

A private family service will be held. Afterwards, he will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
