On May 6, 2024, at approximately 12:02 a.m., Kokomo Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the Qwik Stop located at 305 S. 00 EW. While responding, dispatch notified officers that the suspect shot at a female and stole her vehicle. Howard County Sheriff Deputies located the stolen vehicle moments later and performed a felony traffic stop on U.S. 931 near Carter Street. The suspect, 23-year-old Savaughn Agnew of Indianapolis, was taken into custody without incident.

A firearm Agnew had thrown from the vehicle was found and recovered by officers. No injuries were sustained by the victim as a result of the shooting.

Agnew was transported to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center on preliminary charges of Attempted Murder, Robbery, Attempted Kidnapping, and Possession of a firearm by a Serious Violent Felon.

Man with gunshot wound involved in vehicle accident

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 3:07 p.m., Officers of the Kokomo Police Department responded to the area of Ohio Street and Richmond Street in regard to a vehicular accident. Upon officers’ arrival, they discovered a red Pontiac Vibe pinned underneath a parked semi-trailer. Other occupants who were inside the vehicle managed to exit the vehicle. The occupants informed the officers that the driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had suffered a gunshot wound.

The Kokomo Fire Department responded to the scene to assist and extricate the driver from the vehicle. After extricating the driver from the vehicle, it was determined that the driver possibly sustained a gunshot wound prior to the collision. The driver was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Howard County Coroner's Office assisted in this investigation. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Marshon Burch of Kokomo. The other two occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were uncooperative. An autopsy has been scheduled for May 7 at the Coroner's office to determine the cause and manner of death.
