Outdoor venue will feature heavily in library’s summer programming

2nd Shift Sewer & Plumbing® is the leading provider of plumbing services in Howard County and the surrounding areas. With more than 30 years of experience, their knowledgeable and licensed technicians have the expertise to fix any plumbing or sewer problem you may have.

A group of library lovers and ambassadors from the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce gathered at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s south branch last week to officially celebrate the library’s newest feature: its outdoor “Firefly Stage.”

The stage, which was constructed late last year, was first put into service on April 8 as hundreds gathered to experience the total solar eclipse. And it will get plenty of use this year, as the library’s annual summer reading program is just a few weeks away.

Speaking to a crowd of friendly faces, including Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore, KHCPL Executive Director Faith Brautigam expressed thanks to those who joined the celebration and those who made the Firefly Stage possible.

“Thank you for being here today to celebrate with us,” said Brautigam. “No project comes to fruition without behind-the-scenes work, and this one is no exception. The stage is only here, due to the determination and dedication of our facilities and finance staff.

“If you hang out much with KCPL people, you're likely to hear one of us reference ‘opportunities.’ Our mission is to create opportunities to help our community become its best. So, it's no surprise that we see this stage as a way for us to offer even more opportunities to our community members.

“It's a place where children will have the chance to learn and grow, where residents of any age can find community by spending time around others who share their interests, and where we will experience all the benefits that come with simply spending time outdoors. Watch for upcoming events in this new space. And thank you again for helping us to spread library joy!”

The KHCPL’s south branch – and the Firefly Stage – are located at 1755 E. Center Road. Visit www.khcpl.org to learn more about the library’s many offerings.
