State police looking into May 24 demise of inmate Amanda Sullivan

The Indiana State Police have disclosed that they are investigating a death at the Howard County Jail.

According to a release by ISP, Detective Mike Lorona began an investigation on May 24 at the request of the Howard County Sheriff’s Office into the death of inmate Amanda L. Sullivan, 47, from Kokomo. The death was not reported to local media by the sheriff’s office at the time of the incident or at any time since.

The state police report that just after 7 p.m. Howard County corrections officers found Sullivan lying on the ground and unresponsive. The deputies immediately began administering medical treatment, including CPR. Sullivan was pronounced deceased at the scene. Notification to her family has been made.



Sullivan was charged with a felony count of Residential Entry and a misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief on Jan. 30, 2025. She originally was scheduled to face trial on May 20, but that date was pushed to Aug. 19 by request on April 30.

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and an autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death. No further information will be released at this time.

Investigators are being assisted by the Howard County Coroner’s Office and the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.
