In response to the recent reduction in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, The Howard County Food Access Alliance and United Way of Howard and Tipton Counties is working to ensure residents and partner organizations have access to timely information, local resources, and coordinated support.

“Many families in Howard County rely on SNAP benefits to make ends meet,” said Paul Wyman, President of the Howard County Food Access Alliance. “We understand during this potential period of time without Snap benefits, it may create financial strain and uncertainty. Our priority is to connect affected individuals with available resources and to strengthen our community network in response. Community taking care of community has always been our strength.”

The alliance is working closely with the United Way of Howard and Tipton Counties to actively gather updates from local food banks, pantries, community organizations, and government partners to help residents navigate this transition. The alliance will post continuous updates and resource information on the United Way website at www.howardandtiptonunitedway.org as new assistance programs and community efforts become available. The information also will appear on the Howard County Food Access Alliance Facebook page.

In partnership with the Community Foundation of Howard County, Food Finders Food Bank has increased the number of Mobile Food Pantries scheduled throughout Howard County during the month of November to help meet the growing need for food assistance.

Upcoming Food Finders Mobile Pantry events in Howard County include:

  • Friday, November 7 at 1:00 p.m. — One Church, 2734 S. Washington St.
  • Tuesday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m. — Ross Medical Center, 195 E. Southway Blvd.
  • Wednesday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. — New Life Church, 1803 E. Vaile Ave.
  • Sunday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. — Refreshing Springs Church, 3112 Easy Street

The Center Township Trustee’s Office will offer additional hours for its food pantry on Sat., Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. until noon. This will be in addition to its regular hours.

The Howard County Feeding Program has seven additional sites established throughout Howard County and will provide a hot meal at each location pick-up. Please visit the Howard County Food Access Alliance Facebook page for additional information.

Many churches are stepping up to ensure extra meals are being provided to the community during this time as well. Those opportunities will be shared on the alliance Facebook page as well. Any churches planning on expanding their meal services are asked to send the information to Krista Pullen at kristapullen@purdue.edu.

Community organizations offering food assistance, financial support, or other related services are encouraged to share their updates directly with United Way of Howard and Tipton Counties. These updates will be used to maintain an accurate and comprehensive list of resources available to residents.

To share information or updates, please contact Cheryl Graham at 765-457-4357 ext. 1004 or by email at cgraham@howardandtiptonunitedway.org.

“Howard County United Way and the Howard County Food Access Alliance remain committed to ensuring no one faces this challenge alone,” Wyman added. “By working together, we can support our neighbors and ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need.”
