Indiana's EAP opened Oct. 1; Duke offers Share the Light Fund

As cooler weather settles in, many Hoosiers are preparing their homes for the winter season – checking furnaces, sealing windows and thinking ahead about ways to manage energy use efficiently. Duke Energy is encouraging customers to add one more important step to that list: checking eligibility for Indiana’s Energy Assistance Program (EAP), which opened for applications on Oct. 1, 2025.

The EAP provides a one-time annual benefit to help cover heating and electricity costs. Administered by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, this statewide program offers valuable support for income-qualified households to keep their homes comfortable and connected throughout the winter.

Applications are handled locally through community action agencies across the state – organizations that work closely with residents to simplify the process and answer questions. To find your local agency, visit eap.ihcda.in.gov.

In addition, Duke Energy offers support through our Share the Light Fund. Winter funding will be available beginning in late November. This assistance program helps households facing financial hardship stay current on their electric bills. Over the last five years, our Share the Light Fund has provided more than $4 million in bill assistance, which has helped support nearly 15,000 Indiana households.

At Duke Energy, we’re proud to partner with state and local organizations that share our commitment to helping Hoosiers who may be struggling to make ends meet this season. Programs like the EAP and Share the Light are part of a broader effort to ensure every customer has the tools and resources needed to stay warm this winter.

If you think you might qualify – or know someone who could benefit – take a few minutes to explore your options and apply. A little preparation now can go a long way toward preparing for the winter season ahead.
