Josh McMahan, who was appointed by Governor Braun to fill the judicial vacancy in Howard Superior Court 1, will be sworn in as judge on April 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., in the courtroom of Howard Superior Court 1 by Circuit Court Judge Lynn Murray. The public is invited to attend.
Howard Superior Court 1 is a general jurisdiction trial court and historically is responsible for the Drug Court and Re-Entry Court programs. McMahan is a partner in the firm of Butcher, Ball, Lowery, McMahan & McClelland. He has served as a deputy prosecuting attorney for 14 years.
McMahan received his BA from Ball State in 2003, his Masters from Ball State in 2005 (Summa Cum Laude), and his law degree from Indiana University - Indianapolis in 2010. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 2010.
McMahan has two children and resides in Kokomo.
