The Carver Community Center announced a leadership transition on May 5, as JC Barnett III leaves the executive director post to be replaced by Shari Spicer.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are incredibly grateful for the leadership and impact of our outgoing Executive Director,” said Dominique Williams, Board President of Carver Community Center. “It is the momentum of our past that allows us to build a brighter future.”
The center extended “heartfelt thanks” to Barnett for the “leadership, vision, and commitment” he brought to the organization during his tenure, citing his contributions, which have laid a foundation upon which Spicer can build further success.
“We are equally excited to welcome Shari, whose leadership, experience, and commitment to community will help guide Carver into its next chapter,” said Williams.
Spicer recently served as executive director of The Gilead House, leaving that post in late 2025 to pursue new opportunities. That entry on her resume attracted the attention of the Carver board of directors, as she brings experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and program development.
“Shari brings the kind of leadership and operational strength that aligns perfectly with where Carver is headed,” added Williams. “As we look ahead to our 2026 Annual Campaign and continued growth, we are confident in the future of this organization.”
Carver is currently conducting its annual fundraising campaign, hoping to secure $250,000 to support its programs. Upcoming event to benefit the center include the Juneteenth celebration on June 20 and its annual Gala later in the summer.
“The future of Carver is bright, and we are excited to continue building alongside our supporters, partners, and community members,” the board of directors stated.
