Ivy Tech Community College’s Kokomo Campus is offering PLC (Programmable Logic Controls) Bootcamp Level 1 and Level 2, an intensive, hands-on training series designed to bridge the growing industrial skills gap and empower maintenance technicians, electricians, and engineers.
As modern manufacturing, logistics and energy sectors increasingly rely on advanced automation, the demand for skilled PLC developers is higher than ever. To meet industry need, Ivy Tech has developed a two-part “bootcamp” structure that takes students from automation beginners to confident, project-ready programmers. The program begins June 29, and each one-week section meets daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus at 1815 E. Morgan St.
“Modern control systems are the backbone of today’s industrial facilities,” says Katie Loman, vice chancellor for Ivy+ Career Link for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Service Area. “Our Level 1 and Level 2 bootcamps are built to move students past just theoretical knowledge. We put them at individual workstations to troubleshoot real-world faults and build job-ready confidence in a fraction of the time.”
The bootcamp curriculum focuses on Allen Bradley PLC Training:
PLC Level 1 (Fundamentals & Basics) will meet from June 29 to July 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $850. This foundational module introduces students to industrial automation components, basic electrical diagrams, and hardware configuration. Participants will interpret and create standard ladder logic diagrams, troubleshoot, install and solve basic communication protocols.
PLC Level 2 (Advanced Applications & Troubleshooting) will meet from July 13 to 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $900. A seamless continuation of introductory training, Level 2 challenges participants with advanced programming methodologies and real-world industrial fault finding. Students will dive into advanced networked components, design/develop basic HMI programs, and advanced ladder logic components. Level 2 will include the SACA C-207 Programmable Controller Systems 1-Gold Certification exam.
Registration for the upcoming sessions are open now. Both individual learners and employer-sponsored teams are welcome. Early registration is encouraged as class size is limited to allow for more one-on-one training and hands-on experience. Scanning the QR codes will take you to the Skills Training Portal.
