IU Kokomo’s Havens Auditorium will host Appeals on Wheels, a live Indiana Court of Appeals presentation of an actual appeals case on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

The program, according to IU Kokomo Senior Lecturer in Philosophy Scott Blackwell, is a traveling presentation that has visited all 92 Indiana counties. The justices will be trying an active appeals case on the Havens stage.

The award-winning civics program helps Hoosiers to learn about how Indiana’s judiciary works and also provides opportunities for justices to meet and talk with citizens across the state outside of a formal courtroom setting. Blackwell noted that the format used is what really goes on in an appellate courtroom

“Twenty minutes for each lawyer to present his case,” said Blackwell. “The judges might speak for a bit after, but then the judges will take questions from the audience; not about this case though.”

Blackwell indicated questions can be about court procedures and the justices’ reasoning behind them.
