The Kokomo Lady Kats traveled to Eastern High School for an inter-county softball match-up on April 3. They came away with a 13-7 victory.

Kokomo jumped to an early 2-0 lead, thanks to a run-scoring single by Lucy Goad in the first and a run plated via fielding error in the third.

The Lady Kats broke out in the fifth inning, however, going up 6-1. They continued to add to the score, plating two runs in the sixth and another five runs in the seventh inning.

The Lady Comets put runs on the board late, scoring six runs in the last two innings, but it wasn't enough to surpass Kokomo's 13 runs. Sloppy defensive play spelled doom for Eastern as seven errors led to six unearned runs -- the total margin of victory for Kokomo.

The Lady Kats were led by a trio of hot bats. Emma Lees went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Kinley Martin was 2-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Goad also had a pair of hits, going 2-5 with two RBIs.

Other offense was provided by Lanaya Buckner (1-2, two RBIs) and Spencer Martin (1-5, triple).

Eastern was led by the offensive performance of Katie Hendricks, who went 2-2 with a pair of singles. Marly Coan (two RBIs), Marley Green (one RBI), Myah Stevens, and Ava Roberson (one RBI) each had singles for the Lady Comets.

From the mound, Kokomo's Emma Lees was strong, hurling six innings and allowing just a single unearned run and two hits while striking out three. Goad followed with a rough seventh inning, getting tagged for six runs on just two hits -- four of the runs earned -- while walking three and striking out one.

Eastern freshman Ava Roberson went the distance for the Lady Comets, getting rocked for 13 runs -- seven earned -- while giving up 10 hits and issuing four walks. She also struck out four batters.

Kokomo (2-0) faces Elwood (0-0) tonight, April 9, on the road. Eastern (0-3) hosts Madison-Grant (1-0) this evening in Greentown.
