Former track athletes invited to attend; Jhazlyn McKay sets KHS hurdles record

The tradition continues! This Saturday, May 3, at 11:30 a.m., Kokomo High School will proudly host the 101st running of the Kokomo Relays — the longest continuously run relay meet in the country.

Head girls track coach Dana Neer has made a heartfelt invitation to all former KHS track athletes to attend and show their support. Coach Neer encourages alumni to come out, cheer on the current athletes, and represent their alma mater with Wildkat pride.

This year’s event promises even more excitement, as it will feature a special moment of recognition. For more than 20 years, 2004 Kokomo graduate Maggie Hulet (formerly Schieman) has held the school record in the 300-meter hurdles with an outstanding time of 46.8 seconds. Just two weeks ago, that long-standing mark was surpassed by Jhazlyn McKay, who finished the event with an impressive time of 46.1 seconds which ranks her as one of the top hurdlers in the state.

Coach Neer spoke highly of the new record holder, stating, “Jhazlyn has a very high ceiling, especially considering she is only a sophomore. We are confident that she will continue to improve and lower her time even further.”

The Kokomo Relays have always been a source of great pride and tradition within the community. With a history stretching back over a century, the meet continues to provide thrilling competition and unforgettable memories for athletes and spectators alike. The presence of many former athletes at this year’s event will only add to the atmosphere and energy of the day.

Everyone is encouraged to come out, reconnect with old teammates, and inspire the next generation of Wildkat athletes. This will be a day of celebration, competition, and history in the making!
