Bud is biding time with a trip to Wabash after filling his archery tags for the season

Well, my Indiana archery deer season has been rather short, but successful. I harvested a fat, mature doe on opening morning and three days later, I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and took a buck. So, I decided to wait until the weather got cooler to fill my last deer tag.

I waited all year for a four-trip outing.

I am not really complaining because that certainly hasn’t happened many times in the last 61 years. I washed all my camouflaged clothing and put them back in the plastic totes in the den closet, and I got out all my Hunter Orange hunting apparel. I am now preparing for opening day of the Indiana firearms and muzzleloader deer seasons.

My choice of weapons for the firearms season is my .50 cal CVA Accura2 muzzleloader. I have the choice of the CVA, a 12-gauge Winchester Model 1200 shotgun, and a .44 magnum Henry Big Boy lever-action rifle. I have full confidence in every weapon, but I just prefer the muzzleloader. It has served me well and has proven to be very dependable.

All my choices have been taken care of and cleaned, and any necessary repair or maintenance required is done immediately. As a matter of fact, my Henry rifle made a trip to Minnesota with my grandson, and he dropped a bear with one shot.

I have always said the people in Kokomo and the surrounding area need a place where customers can go to get sporting goods equipment for archery and firearms equipment and supplies. There are not very many options that offer everything, including qualified employees to assist you.

Well, there is such a place, and it is well worth the trip. During the last couple weeks, I needed a few items for my TenPoint crossbow, and I made the drive to Bass & Bucks Hunting and Archery Pro Shop in Wabash, Indiana. It is a beautiful drive, and it sure is enjoyable to see all the leaves changing colors this time of year. It is not unusual to see several deer out in the picked corn and bean fields.

I had told my wife how very impressive their facility was, and it was her first trip there. If you have never been there, you are truly missing out. They have a huge building that is almost a shopping center in itself. In my opinion, their archery department is great. They have everything an archer or bowhunter wants and needs.

Recurve bows, compound bows, crossbows, arrows, arrow components, shooting accessories, an indoor archery range, an outdoor archery range … and their archery technicians are very knowledgeable and willing to assist you.

They also have a firearms department that is second to none. Not only can they sell you a firearm, they can service just about any make or model weapon, get parts you need, and answer any questions you may have. They have certified technicians in every department, and trust me, they know their stuff.

I had a difficult time locating a new breach plug for my CVA Accura2. They didn’t have one, but they kindly ordered the correct part I needed and called me the moment it came in the door. When they called me, I was busy with a couple of other commitments, but they set the part under the counter. When I arrived, they greeted me cordially and double-checked to be certain it was the correct part I needed. And it was!

Bass & Bucks has been in business since 1999, and they are truly one of Indiana’s best facilities. They have practically everything for the outdoors enthusiasts. The drive is not too far, and the scenery is fantastic.

They have great shooting and practice ranges for archery and firearms, and the friendly people there will treat you with kindness and respect. They host several indoor and outdoor archery tournaments, and their outdoor firearms shooting range is fantastic.

Bass & Bucks is located at 4890 W. Millcreek Pike, Wabash, IN 46992. Their telephone number is 260-569-1853. Tell them Bud Fields sent you!
