Carver Center, Howard County Health Department form partnership

Teamwork makes the dream work! That phrase may sound like a cliché, but it holds undeniable truth. The ability to communicate effectively—both verbally and nonverbally—can make all the difference in achieving success. Understanding this principle, Arielle Pagan of the Howard County Health Department made a meaningful impact at Carver’s Spring Break Camp, teaching children the importance of effective communication.

In today’s world, where nearly every child has a device in their hands, the ability to communicate properly is more essential than ever. Arielle emphasized the significance of etiquette, effective forms of communication, and the right attitude when engaging with others. Her work helped equip these young minds with skills that will serve them well in various aspects of life, from personal relationships to professional aspirations.

On one of the days of the camp, Arielle broke the larger group of about 30 kids into two smaller groups. They had to begin by standing on a large blue sheet, which resembled a tablecloth. The task was to turn the tablecloth completely over, without a single team member getting off of the cloth. Both teams accomplished the goal.

Reflecting on her time at the camp, Arielle shared, “My experience with the kids has been incredibly rewarding because I get the chance to both challenge and teach them new skills simultaneously. I really enjoy pushing them outside of their comfort zones and encouraging them to think differently. I hope that even a small part of what I teach stays with them and that they can use these lessons in some meaningful way in life.”

The partnership between Carver and the Howard County Health Department has proven to be an invaluable resource for the community. By bringing in dedicated individuals like Arielle, Carver is not only fostering personal growth among its young participants but also strengthening the broader community through education and empowerment.

This collaboration is just one of many that Carver has engaged in, each designed to provide vital resources and learning opportunities. With initiatives like these, the future looks bright for the young people of Howard County as they develop the skills needed to navigate life successfully. Through teamwork, communication, and strong community partnerships, Carver continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of many.
