Hundreds turn out for resources, free food, and fun at Center Township
Center Township of Howard County held its annual Community Expo Resource Fair on June 12, and hundreds of individuals and families filled the lots at the township office along Jefferson Street for resources, services, and support.
In addition to the dozens of booths set up to connect people with job and training opportunities, housing support, food assistance, health and wellness resources, and educational opportunities, those in attendance had the opportunity to receive information and assistance from organizations committed to improving lives.
Of course, there had to be activities for the kids. The Kokomo Fire Department and Kokomo Police Department turned out with equipment and vehicles to explore. The U.S. Army rolled out a bouncing arena, and a petting zoo invited young ones to greet animals they might not otherwise see in an urban setting.
Just as important was the enormous amount food given away. Pallet after pallet of non-perishable goods were available to anyone in need. And a free lunch was prepared by Center Township volunteers to further give to the community.
Thanks to major sponsor Duke Energy and several other contributors, the entire event was free and open to the community. For more information about the Center Township Trustee’s Office, visit them on Facebook.
