In spite of how you feel about yourself, you can find spiritual refreshment in Christ
Recently, I had the opportunity to speak at Kokomo Table, a monthly event held at the Carver Community Center Auditorium. This gathering, hosted by Reach Church and Pastor Brian Hughes, invites people from across the community to come together, share a wonderful meal, and hear the Word of God. It’s always a powerful environment, and I’m grateful anytime I’m given the chance to be a part of it.
In the days leading up to my speaking engagement, I was confident I already had a message on my heart. I had been walking through some personal battles, and I felt drawn to speak about Jesus being asleep on the boat with His disciples. That story has always reminded me that even in the middle of life’s storms, God is with us—even when our faith doesn’t feel as strong as it should be.
But during a morning study, the Lord shifted my focus. He placed John 7:38 on my heart: “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” In that moment, I knew the message had changed.
Opportunities to speak and share my faith have a way of refreshing me. Not only that, they also refresh the people who hear the Word. Still, there are times when I feel unworthy of the opportunity to stand and share. In those moments, God reminds me that it’s not about my worthiness; it’s about my belief in Him.
When we truly believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit dwells within us. From that place comes a continual, overflowing source of spiritual life that not only nourishes us but also impacts others.
So, my encouragement is simple: in spite of how you feel, in spite of what you think about yourself, choose to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Be obedient to that still, small voice that tells you to share. When you do, you won’t just be refreshed, you’ll become a source of refreshment for others as well.
