Let’s celebrate Mom the SUTE way. 💐🥂
Gilead House held its biggest fundraising event of the year -- The Dinner -- on Fri., April 10, and it was a rousing success. With more than 150 people in attendance, the event raised more than $75,000 for the organization.
“Thank you to everyone who helped, enjoyed the night, and contributed,” said Gilead House board member Jennifer Bingaman.
The night was an opportunity for the community to learn more about the Gilead House and share in its successes. Alisa Broughton, a former resident and current employee of the organization, shared her story. Locating to Kokomo from Chicago, she escaped addiction with the Gilead House’s support and now assists others in the journey. The Gilead House provides a safe and supportive residential environment for women to heal, avoid homelessness, and achieve lasting recovery.
In support of that mission, the community stepped up, purchasing several gift packages and experiences through the live auction. The night also featured a “bottle pull” in which participants purchased chances at winning high-quality bourbons and wines. Best of all, the participants made direct pledges of support, amounting to more than $21,000.
“Thank you all for helping to create such an amazing event!” said Bakir Coulter, executive director.
The funds raised at The Dinner will help the Gilead House serve its residents, improving the facility, and ensuring the organization’s bus remains functioning.
Founded by Reba Harris, the Gilead House was established in 1998 after Harris received a vision from God, calling her to service as she prayed that He act to save women in the grasp of addiction. Today, the Gilead House carries on her mission, housing up to 24 women at a time and providing services to them as they leave incarceration and substance abuse behind them.
