Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market extends season to October

This article is brought to you by the Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market. Opening Day is Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.! We are so happy to be back! Summer is right around the corner! Come out Saturday and enjoy fantastic music provided by Ivory Moss while you browse our vendors! We have Little Sprouts for the kids and a whole lotta other stuff! We can’t wait to see you!

The Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market returns to the downtown on Sat., May 2, and there will be a little bit more of everything to enjoy. For the first time, the market will extend its season beyond its typical May-to-September schedule, adding dates on the first two Saturday in October.

The change doesn’t stop with extra market days. The market leadership is working to provide more options at every event. The list of vendors is long, and the variety of products is huge. And of course, there will be plenty to do and experience for every member of the family.

One of the biggest draws of the market is the fact that all of the products for sale are produced locally; within 50 miles of Howard County. All of the meats, eggs, jellies and jams, baked goods, fresh produce, flowers, plants, trees, honey, soap, candles, pottery, and artwork all come from local artisans and farmers.

The cost of food has risen, and more families are in need of assistance. The Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market helps by accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and offers a local incentive program – Double Bucks – which doubles the value of SNAP benefits on eligible food items, up to $20 per visit.

The market also offers a program for children – Little Sprouts. The program educates children on plants, nutrition, and gardening while providing participating children with “Sprout Bucks” they can use to purchase products at the market.

Additionally, vendors are encouraged to accept Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) vouchers as well as vouchers from the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program.

While the market draws a bustling crowd every week, the sound of music still wafts across the lot. Live entertainment is offered every week, giving shoppers a soundtrack as they select their favorite items. For the opening market on May 2, listeners will enjoy tunes from Ivory Moss.
