The Carver Community Center finished July with a busy week as two signature community events brought together young athletes, families, volunteers, and community partners.

Carver recently concluded its second annual Carver Hoops Dreams Camp, led by former Division I athletes Antonio Penny of I Am the Penny Way Training and Jarob McCullum. Throughout the four-day camp, students of multiple grade levels sharpened their basketball skills through drills, competitions, and instruction while also learning valuable lessons about discipline, teamwork, confidence, and character.

Penny and McCullum continue to make a lasting impact by investing in the next generation, using the game of basketball as a platform to mentor and encourage young people. Their commitment to giving back provides opportunities that extend far beyond the basketball court.

In the same week, hundreds of youth and family members filled the Carver Community Center for the annual Back-to-School Giveaway. Each year, Terry Cumbee and her dedicated team organize the event by collecting school supplies throughout the year, helping ease the financial burden many families face as students prepare to return to the classroom.

The event is made possible through the generosity of donors from across the Kokomo community who faithfully contribute supplies and resources to make the evening possible. Families also enjoyed food, snacks, and access to community resources, while local law enforcement added to the excitement with a bicycle raffle for area youth.

From developing future leaders through athletics to ensuring students begin the school year prepared, the week served as another reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose. Carver Community Center remains committed to creating opportunities that strengthen families, invest in young people, and build a brighter future for our community.
