The Kokomo Wildkats stormed into Walton last week to take on the Lewis Cass Kings in a volleyball contest that saw the Kats prevail in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.
Senior Abby Hansen led the attack for Kokomo with 12 kills. Senior Helen Qui and junior Regan McClain added 10 kills each.
For Cass, seniors Abbey Hileman and Maci Garland registered 7 kills each. From service, five Kokomo players scored two aces each. Four Kings scored one ace each.
Defensively, the Wildkats blocked four shots, with one each for McClain, Hansen, Qui, and sophomore Torre Willis. Hileman, Garland, and freshman Brooklynn Kraner blocked a shot each for the Kings.
Kokomo senior Dani Tate led her team with 14 digs, while Garland (13) and junior Maryn Zeck (10) dominated digging for Lewis Cass.
Willis set up the scoring for Kokomo with 33 assists. Kraner led Cass with 10 assists.
Before the game, the VolleyKats presented the Kings with flowers and ribbons to show support and raise suicide awareness, as Lewis Cass suffered a tragedy earlier this month.
The Wildkats followed up their win with a tournament on Sept. 9. Going into the final of that event, Kokomo had improved its record to 9-6. They will travel to Peru (4-13) for a non-conference bout this evening.
Lewis Cass suffered another pair of losses over the weekend in tournament play, dropping to 5-8 as they host Northwestern (6-9) this evening.
