The Kokomo Wildkats welcomed Fort Wayne Snider to Haworth Building on April 12 for a varsity boys volleyball game. The Kats, enjoying their first season of competition, fell to the visiting Panthers, three sets to one.

The boys played close in the first two sets, dropping the opener, 25-21, but evening the score with a 25-22 second set win. The Kats slowly ran out of steam after that, dropping the third set, 25-20, and the final set, 25-15.

This marked the first loss for the team this season, dropping its record to 2-1. Snider improved to 5-5.

The Kats opened the season with a pair of wins over Crosspointe Christian Academy of Indianapolis and University High School of Carmel.

Kokomo turned out 16 players for the varsity team in this inaugural season. They are led by seniors Travis Kewley (1), JJ Kilcline (4), Ethan Wyrick (6), Miguel Ramirez (9), AJ Blessing (13), Igor Alves (21), and Owen Moore (24).

The team is bolstered by juniors North Muannara (0), Konosuke Yamaguchi (2), Sean Kaprolat (5), Henrique Alvarenga (10), Kawpun Juengrueangsit (11), and Willy Sanchez (15).

The Kats round out their varsity team with sophomores Minjun Baek (3) and Jose Calvillo (16) and freshman Bryce Brassard (8). Kelly Hopkins coaches the team.

Kokomo will travel to Lafayette Jefferson on April 15 for the first of four contests over the next week. The Kats will host South Bend Riley on April 17, then face North Putnam and Irving Preparatory Academy on April 20.

The short season comes to a close with road games at University and Lawrence North on April 26 and May 1, respectively.
