One dead after reckless gun handling

On Oct. 10, 2024, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Kokomo Police were dispatched to 319 W. Markland Ave. on a report of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Henry Clayton, had sustained a gunshot wound. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that Clayton had been showing a handgun to 31-year-old Perry Reyes inside the residence. At some point during the interaction, believing the handgun was empty, Reyes allegedly pointed the handgun at Clayton and pulled the trigger.

Clayton was transported to a local hospital and later was flown to Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis where he succumbed to his injuries. Reyes was arrested and charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon and Involuntary Manslaughter.
