Glo-Swim and a Movie highlights first week of Spring Break; passes still available

This article is brought to you by the Kokomo Family YMCA. ONE WEEK AWAY! If you are 50 and older, join us on April 5 for our mixed doubles tournament. Register online today to see if your team can make it to the top: https://bit.ly/4iUgmqo

This tournament is open to YMCA members and non-members. Feel free to bring your own paddles and indoor pickleballs. All proceeds will benefit our Annual Campaign. The April 5 Tournament for ages 50 and older is a mixed doubled format, double elimination contest beginning at 9 a.m. The cost to enter is $60 per team.

The Kokomo Family YMCA's pool was filled with glowing balls, colorfully striped floats, and smiling faces last Friday as the latest edition of Glo Swim and a Movie invited members and non-members alike to enjoy an evening in the water.

While frolicking and splashing about, families watched a movie on a giant inflatable screen. Others paddled along with the floats, and some volleyed glowing beach balls back and forth.

According to the YMCA's Marketing and Communications Director Tony Budenz, 75 people signed up to participate in the Glo Swim, a nice turnout for a Spring Break week. The YMCA offers special programming at this time of year to provide affordable options for individuals and families who stay home during the break.

"The members tell us they appreciate events like this," Budenz said. "It's something we've done a few times before, and we'll offer it again. We might even do something like a Wibit party, where we feature the inflatable obstacle course in the lap pool. we could actually combine the two."

The Kokomo Family YMCA's Spring Break Staycation continues this week, and it offers non-members the opportunity to experience much of what the Y has to offer.

"It's nice because we're offering the Staycation pass where you don't have to be a member," said Budenz. "You can pay $25 and enjoy the Y for your entire vacation. You can even join in on stuff like this that's usually for members only."

The $25 fee covers an entire household, and the pass allows full member access through April 6, and if the recipient decides before April 7 to become a member once the offer is over, the pass fee can be applied to the joiner fee -- a 50-percent discount.

To obtain a Staycation pass or to join the Kokomo Family YMCA, stop by 114 N. Union St. and visit the information desk.
