The Howard County Sports Hall of Fame proudly announces its 2025 class of inductees, honoring six outstanding athletes and one beloved contributor whose achievements and dedication have left a lasting legacy in Kokomo sports history.

This year’s class includes Zach Adams, Hillary Beck, Brian Cossell, Dan Dumoulin, Harold “Rowdy” Elliott, Herman Fowler, and contributor Ron Barsh.

Zach Adams (Kokomo High School, 1984)

Zach Adams made history by winning the IHSAA state championship in the 100-yard butterfly in 1984. He earned All-American honors and continued his swimming career at Purdue University, where he set a school record in the 100-yard butterfly that stood for over a decade.

Adams also competed in the NCAA Championships and left a lasting mark on swimming in Indiana.

Hillary Beck (Kokomo High School, 2001)

A dominant two-sport athlete, Hillary Beck starred in basketball and soccer for the LadyKats.

She scored more than 900 career points in basketball and helped lead Kokomo to an undefeated regular season and top state ranking her senior year. In soccer, she scored 109 goals and was a three-time Kokomo Tribune MVP. Beck went on to play Division I basketball at Miami University (Ohio) and later served as a collegiate coach at Arizona, Evansville, and Western Carolina.

Brian Cossell (Haworth High School, 1982)

A three-sport standout at Haworth High School, Brian Cossell excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. He was a key contributor on the 1982 American Legion Post 6 baseball team that advanced to the World Series.

Cossell later starred at North Dakota State University, where he played both basketball and baseball, setting multiple school records and earning All-Conference honors. His continued contributions as a coach and mentor have kept him closely tied to Howard County athletics.

Dan Dumoulin (Kokomo High School, 1972)

Though he left Kokomo High School before graduating, Dan Dumoulin’s baseball talent took him to the highest level. He pitched parts of two seasons in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds, earning his lone MLB win in a dramatic extra-inning game in 1978.

Before reaching the big leagues, Dumoulin helped lead American Legion Post 6 to its first state title and enjoyed a successful minor league career, including a standout season with the Indianapolis Indians.

Harold “Rowdy” Elliott (Kokomo Native, Deceased)

Kokomo’s first major league baseball player, Harold “Rowdy” Elliott played five seasons between 1910 and 1920 with the Boston Doves (now Braves), Chicago Cubs, and Brooklyn Robins (now Dodgers).

A catcher known more for his colorful off-field persona than his on-field play, Elliott batted .241 in his MLB career. Though his life ended tragically, his pioneering role in Kokomo baseball history secures his place in the Hall of Fame.

Herman Fowler (Kokomo High School, 1998)

Herman Fowler was a dual-sport star in football and basketball at Kokomo High School. He was the MVP and leading scorer on the hardwood his senior year and played on a football team that posted an undefeated regular season.

Fowler went on to play linebacker at Indiana University as a walk-on who earned a scholarship and multiple varsity letters. He later returned to KHS as an assistant coach, continuing his impact on local student-athletes.

Ron Barsh (Contributor)

Known affectionately as “RB,” Ron Barsh is a retired Kokomo High School teacher, counselor, coach, and athletic director who dedicated his life to the success of student-athletes. A Warsaw native, Barsh made his mark in Kokomo by working 54 consecutive Kokomo Relays, including the 100th event.

He was instrumental in the founding and ongoing success of the Howard County Sports Hall of Fame, serving as one of its original board members. His decades of behind-the-scenes support, mentorship, and leadership have made him a true icon in Kokomo sports.

The induction ceremony will be held later this year, with additional details forthcoming. The Howard County Sports Hall of Fame congratulates each inductee and their families on this well-deserved honor.
