The Howard County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the hiring of its newest merit deputy Austin Day (#34-107).

Deputy Day grew up in Greentown and is a 2019 graduate of Eastern High School. He continued his education at Indiana Wesleyan University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2023.

His career with the Sheriff’s Office began in 2022 during an internship, where he gained valuable experience in multiple areas of law enforcement. In February 2023, he was hired as a Corrections Officer, later serving as both a SERT Officer and Transport Officer. In December 2023, he transitioned into the Civil Process Division, continuing to build his knowledge and skills while serving the community.

On August 25, 2025, Deputy Day successfully completed and passed the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) physical assessment. He is scheduled to report to the Academy on September 2, where he will undergo 16 weeks of specialized training in preparation for his duties as a merit deputy.

Sheriff Jerry Asher stated, “Deputy Day has proven his dedication and work ethic throughout his time with the Sheriff’s Office. His experience across several divisions has prepared him well for this new role, and we look forward to watching him grow in service to the citizens of Howard County.”

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office congratulates Deputy Day on this accomplishment and welcomes him into his new position.
