Step into the life God designed for us
I’ll never forget hearing the quote attributed to John Gotti: “I never lie because I don’t fear anyone. You only lie when you’re afraid.” A hard truth from a hard man.
Most of us carry some fear, yet the Bible says “fear not” 365 times; one for every day of the year. It’s a daily reminder that faith should replace fear.
Today one of the biggest fears is social anxiety. More and more, people avoid real, face-to-face interaction. But human beings were created for connection, conversation, touch, and shared feelings. This isn’t only about personal benefit; it’s also about being compassionate.
Considering the thoughts, emotions, and needs of others is part of our calling. When we fail to acknowledge people, we drift from our purpose. We are called to serve and love one another.
Jesus modeled this perfectly. Jesus wasn’t a hard man at all, He was gentle, loving, and compassionate. Nevertheless, He told hard truths. He spoke directly and honestly, but always in love. His words challenged people, yet His actions showed He knew how to meet them at their point of need.
And how did He do that? By noticing them. Truly seeing people. That’s something many of us miss today.
Think about it. How often do you avoid someone’s gaze or pretend to be busy to dodge an interaction? Next time, try something different. Hold their eye contact. See if you can notice a need you could meet.
Then, go further. Actually meet that need, even if it’s small. Sometimes the simplest act of acknowledgment can change someone’s day or even their life.
Fear isolates us. Love connects us. By choosing to notice, engage, and act, we step into the life God designed for us. One of courage, compassion, and service. May you be blessed as you take the risk to truly see others, and may your courage inspire them to do the same.
